Which Riordan Character Do You Think Had The Most Wasted Potential?

Which Riordan character do you think had the most wasted potential?

I can't choose because there are too many.

Yikes, just another toxic Percabeth moment

I was reading Percy Jackson Greek Heroes and I found another concerning Percabeth moment-

Percy says that when he doesn't like what Annabeth likes, she goes all 'man-hazan' (meaning warrior like) on him.

Meaning that she yells at him and is violent when he doesn't like what she likes..........

That's uncalled for. You don't have to like everything that your partner likes. And if they get angry at you for not liking what they like, then that's concerning and you need to talk to them about it.

This is a treasure. I'm treasuring it. You've given me a treasure.

Messing with Elon Musk would probably be the best thing for Artemis Fowl. It would be a field day for him-Christmas like you said. If we take it a step further, Artemis could secretly mess with the entire Trump department because they're so incompetent rn. He'd be shaking his head in disbelief while internally laughing hard enough to cry.

IMAGINE WHAT THE FAIRY WORLD WOULD BE DOING LMAOOOOOOOOOOO

Your tags are so right honestly. This is the one time that the Fowl family would be back in crime-the funniest thing is that it's kind of an ethical crime, isn't it, which is an oxymoron-but it's still a crime.

Not to get political or anything, but is anyone else wondering how our beloved fictional characters would react to everything that's going in America and consequently the rest of the world right now?

There are so many things I wish I could tell you that I'm lost.

I know for sure that next at least year will be a hell. Please, consider the possibility of psychotherapeutic/medical support if thoughts of death become obsessive.

I'm not really obsessed with death. Truthfully speaking, I'm not even suicidal.

I'm not sad, in fact I feel somewhat apathetic. I think my reaction is manifesting itself in an unwillingness to do much after his death-there are so many things I should be doing (reading more books, writing more, reading about writing, going out for walks and exercise) but I just stay on the computer all day.

Also, I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to discuss with a therapist. I'm not really sure what I'd say to them.

Anyway, thanks for the message. It's nice to see messages like these.

NICASIA AND ORLAGH'S RELATIONSHIP

You know, the one thing I like about Nicasia is that she has a good relationship with her mother.

In Orlagh's card, it's said that she loves her daughter above all and wants Nicasia to have everything that she has. She also listens to her daughter over Balekin, an extremely important ally.

And I love this. I love it because we almost NEVER see good mother-daughter relationships in media. I don't think I need to tell you how they ruined Demeter and Persephone.

In TFOTA, almost everyone has a bad relationship with their mother.

Eva Duarte is dead, so she doesn't count as having a good relationship, even if Jude, Taryn and Vivienne love her. I'm talking about mothers who are alive.

Lady Asha is not a good mother to Cardan. She's abusive. Read the books.

Oak and Oriana DO have a good relationship, but.........it's........complicated as well. She fed him poison when she was young, and that kinds of puts a strain on things, even it was to protect him. (I highly doubt that Orlagh did that to Nicasia).

Also, Oak is a boy, and mother-son relationships are already represented plenty in media. I was talking about mother-daughter relationships.

Simply put, it would be cool to see Orlagh and Nicasia interact. Maybe Orlagh lovingly giving Nicasia advice, or Nicasia showing concern for her aging mother, or her grief about her mother and Orlagh's possible death.

Misogyny against PJO Calypso

I have to say that PJO as a fanbase can be surprisingly biased against Calypso and sometimes their misogyny shows. You have a right to dislike Calypso and how she was written and retconned, but some of the posts I've seen about her are just plain misogynistic.

Calypso doesn't owe her life to Leo just because he rescued her from her island. She doesn't have to cater to him and his desires. She's entitled to live her own life on her own terms.

If she wants to stay back at her school instead of spending time with Leo, if she wants to travel the world with or without him, if she wants to make new friends and hang out with them, she is entitled to all of that and she's not morally bad for it.

Not to disappoint Caleo shippers or anything, but I honestly think that the best arc for Caleo would be for them to break up. Calypso wants to travel the world and make new friends; Leo wants to stay at the Waystation, teach kids and help them. The natural solution? A breakup. It doesn't even have to be messy and sad either-just a simple, amicable breakup, an acknowledgment that they like each other as friends, but that they can't stay together because they just don't work out.

I also think that this breakup arc would be healthy for young children and teenagers who read this because it shows them that not all breakups have to be messy and sad. That you can breakup with someone politely and remain on good terms with them, which makes the readers less apprehensive about breakups.

Just my thoughts, feel free to add on.

We ruined Demeter and Persephone's relationship.

The thing is, Demeter and Persephone had a beautiful relationship. And modern pieces that depict Greek culture simply just……….ruin it. Lore Olympus, Percy Jackson, Blood of Olympus, Hades even. It's disheartening that we're so misogynistic that we can't just let a mother and daughter love each other without complications or trauma. No, we have always have to make Demeter the controlling, overprotective, helicopter mother and Persephone the rebel daughter. It's disgusting, frankly, and I would love to see a piece of media where they simply have a loving, functional relationship.

Annabeth's gut punch isn't toxic or abusive per se, but in the larger context of their relationship, it's just another incident and showcase of her toxicity towards Percy.

PJO Athena didn't have to have kids-a possible alternative to this

So anyone who's read about Greek Mythology probably knows that Athena is a virgin goddess-and Ancient Greeks considered marriage and children as losing your virginity.

Ancient Greek were also taken very seriously. In fact, if you lose your virginity whether consensual or not, you were executed. Even MoA says this-you die in a horrible way if you lose your virginity, which is why the Romans ignored Annabeth so much.

So............Athena did not need to have children. Even brain children formed from her's and her lover's thoughts, because they're still children.

But! you say. But Annabeth!

Uh, let me speak, please. Some silence is required. Yes, thank you.

ANNABETH SHOULD'VE BEEN ATHENA'S CHOSEN, HER CHAMPION, NOT HER CHILD.

Let me explain about this.

So, Athena fell in love with Frederick, right?

Well, let's change it to she platonically liked Frederick and was impressed with his intelligence and wit, so she told him and his wife that as a gift, she could bless their daughter Annabeth with demigod powers, a chosen champion of Athena-

but she warns them of all the risks that'll happen, and tells them that Annabeth will be turned into a demigod directly, and she tells them how to raise Annabeth in the right environment.

And have Annabeth's parents be thrilled because both of them can fully see through the Mist. And honestly, they didn't think that it would be so hard to raise a demigod!

And once Annabeth is blessed, they keep pushing her-they think that she should be smart enough, but they don't put her in a proper environment for all of this because they're unable to get one because 1) It would be difficult to get tons of books in Ancient Greek

2) They didn't realise the actual consequences of having a child with ADHD and dyslexia because they were too excited with Annabeth becoming 'magical' as they put it, so they thought that she'd be insanely smart even though Athena warned them against this, and they keep pushing her, they're disappointed that she's not in middle school by only seven years old.

3) And by then, the monsters start coming and the spiders start coming too and they realise how difficult it is so they blame her for it.

And so she runs away and then everything else happens, and Athena feels guilty and angry about making Annabeth her champion when she was just an infant, so she guides her and helps her.

And then Annabeth could be isolated at camp without anyone in her cabin, because Athena's demigods aren't 'real' demigods-they have two mortal parents and are only blessed by Athena, so the camp doesn't treat them like demigods and kind of looks down on them.

So Annabeth feels the need to prove herself and this also makes her cling to Luke more. Also, she finally finds a real friend in Percy, which makes more sense, because how come she just makes friends with a random guy at camp, even a son of the Big 3, when she's been there for 5 years?

This makes Annabeth more relatable because there are people who's parents didn't think twice before having children and there are people whose parents pressure them academically too much.

And now you're probably wondering about Malcolm.

Yeah, what about Malcolm?

He's barely there in the original PJO series. Once in BOTL where he walks in on Percabeth hugging? Well, have another demigod walk in for another purpose.

Malcolm in TLO? Change it to another cabin. Simple.

BOO when he's attending the meeting? Have it be Clarisse.

TON when Apollo interacts with him? Have it be an Ares camper (Sherman Yang, maybe) who's gathering information, because Ares campers aren't just violent dickheads, they can gather information too. Information gathering is a part of war, and Ares campers don't just fight.

When he's mentioned coming out as gay because of Nico? Put another camper there. Whichever one you want.

Malcolm Pace lovers, I'm sorry about dissing Malcolm-I don't hate him, it's just that he's not even that important. If you took all the children of Athena (ruling out the historical ones which can be cut out) then Annabeth Chase is more important than all the other three combined. I'm not even sure if Zane is canon or not.

What other Greek mythology based books would you recommend

Greek Mythology based books? Well, if you're looking for stories like PJO, I don't know-

But I would really recommend reading the Odyssey and Iliad, even translated versions of them with easier-to-read language. I would also recommend reading Euripedes' Bacchae and his other works like Medea.

@margaretkart

@superkooku

@katerinaaqu

The tagged people will be able to recommend more books like the ones I listed above.

Simon and Jacqueline both died? Unexpected.

I was just reading Death on the Nile, and in the middle of the book I predicted that both Jacqueline and Simon had teamed up to kill Linnet and take her money; I WAS RIGHT-
