If Poseidon and Athena were written accurately, how would they react to Percabeth?

So I said in this post that I wanted to see more of Poseidon and Annabeth interactions where Poseidon is judging Annabeth.

Based on their mythological counterparts, PJO Athena would probably have fewer problems with the relationship, seeing as she is logical and practical, so she would be able to accept that Percy and Annabeth love each other. I mean, she could be annoyed with the relationship, but she would definitely be less judgmental and more lenient.

And Poseidon would actually dislike Annabeth. He loves Percy and Percy loves Annabeth, so he'd let her live for Percy's sake, but other than that, he does not care for the girl and might even minorly inconvenience her if he could get away with it just to be petty-

Because Poseidon is petty. He's very volatile-one moment he can be kind and gentle, the next brooding and raging. And he's second to Zeus in being morally gray in the myths-that is, he's a very dark shade of grey for some people. He would love his children a lot, though, so there's that. And maybe if he was feeling nice or generous, he wouldn't inconvenience Annabeth.

No emotional support and heavy procrastination tendencies, this next year's going to be one hell of a year for me.

How do you think Dionysus looked when he was dating Pollux's and Castor's mother? Did he look like his usual self at Camp Half Blood or did he look more handsome, like his usual godly self before his punishment? It would be hilarious if he looked handsome when was dating her and then he went back to his usual appearance. Can you imagine her and her sons' confusion? She asks her sons about him and they describe him, and she's like, excuse me, is that your father? That's not how I saw him, and then she comes to camp maybe, and he reverts to his handsome appearance, confusing his sons and the other campers, and Chiron is trying so hard not to laugh.

And then his sons see him change appearances and stare at him in disbelief, maybe horror, and he smiles at them guiltily, and Chiron comforts them or something, IDK, I just think that that would be really funny.

Anyway:

I highly doubt that Piper, the teenaged daughter of a famous Hollywood movie star, had 0 access to phones growing up. I could see Tristan blocking certain social media apps to try and protect her (cause people are gross online to teenage girls and I don’t think he’s that incompetent of a parent to not care, especially as his fame grew). It meshes well with her backstory as well - Jane/ another assistant/ Tristan himself could’ve handed Piper a phone and expect that to fix her need for parental attention that wasn’t purely monetary, especially since Tristan wouldn’t’ ve known about demigods not being safe near phones

Frank could’ve not been allowed a phone due to his grandmother knowing about the Poseidon ancestry (if I remember right), but he also had the most normal childhood compared to the rest of the 7, as he likely went to a regular school (I remember he mentions participating in spelling bees), so he would’ve been around them for a good chunk of the day

Maybe consistency with his own worldbuilding is too much to ask from Rick anymore

This-all of this. You're right. Frank's grandmother could not be around him and protect him all the time. He would have used some technology-he would have encountered some monsters.

I wish we knew if he was homeschooled or went to normal school. We don't even know that much about his pre-CJ life.

Aphrodite and Mitchell oneshot

And then, in front of the whole camp, Mitchell had burst into tears and ran away, even as Silena called for him and Drew hissed at Sherman. And he had come to the forest, where he really liked to be alone. Thankfully, there were no nymphs or dryads now. Well, there was one, and he had turned to leave, but she called his name and beckoned him over. And then she had told him that she was actually his mother, Aphrodite. He had been told that if, by a rare chance, a god was actually encountered, they must be given the utmost respect and consideration. One's own needs were practically nonexistent, one always agreed with them no matter what. She patted a moss cushioned rock beside her. 'Oh, do sit down! It's been ages since I've talked to one of my children.' He sat down, assuming a respectful posture, hands folded in his lap. 'Ah…………uh, to what do I owe this honour?' 'Oh? Sometimes I secretly visit Camp Half Blood and watch Capture The Flag for fun, and, well, I saw what happened today.' Embarrassment heated his face. Was she going to tell all the other gods? Would he be made a laughingstock among them? Or would she turn him into something for embarrassing her? 'Oh, cheer up.' she patted his cheek and he blinked in surprise. 'I'm not going to humiliate you further. I felt that I ought to tell you how bad my children can have it, especially my sons. The patriarchy negatively affects men as well.' He swallowed. Ah. So……..she was going to comfort him? Would she expect something from him after this? Was she going to send him on a quest to prove himself or something? His throat constricted. He'd heard stories of campers going missing or worse. And there was that horrible tradition of weaving a burial shroud for a quester.

Imagines flashed through his mind, of his siblings weaving with trembling hands, of tears sliding down their cheeks, of the designs that they would struggle to choose from. 'My children are often dismissed and treated as frivolous. The gods are changed by how we are viewed, and people have begun to view me as a silly, fragile little thing who would sooner walk away then get my hands dirty. And the same goes for my children, which I cannot control, though I fervently wish I could.' Does she want to control us? Mitchell thought uncomfortably. Or is she talking about her image? 'My sons bear the brunt of this horribly-misogyny and misandry can be two versions of a terrible, useless coin. Feminine men were often mocked back in the day-well, they still ARE mocked, but you understand me.' And the point of this is? 'The point of this is to assure you that you are not alone. Other feminine men, even ones not my sons, suffer from the same discrimination. I'm glad that there's a large majority of people who accept that Rick kind of fucked up Greek Mythology in Percy Jackson..........

But does anyone feel the same about The Kane Chronicles and Magnus Chase?

The way Rick portrayed Anubis as a hot white teenage emo boy who was SIXTEEN years old when in Egyptian Mythology he was a GROWN ADULT WITH A WIFE AND A DAUGHTER really nags at me.

And, what's more, Anubis 16 while Sadie is at first twelve and then thirteen.

Walt's age is debatable because he's said to be fourteen and then sixteen. It's generally accepted that he's sixteen, but some people also think he's fourteen, so ok, your choice.

BUT ANUBIS IS SIXTEEN AND HE'S DATING A 12-13 YEAR OLD?

If Anubis DID indeed have the maturity level of a sixteen year old (weird choice, Rick) then he wouldn't even LOOK at Sadie romantically, because sixteen year olds don't do that!

It's disgusting, really, to do something like this. And don't start on Anubis not knowing the cultural practices of today. They're not real. Rick Riordan wrote this knowing how disgusting it was. It's unacceptable.

I honestly don't get why Anubis had to be a 16 year old. TKC could have been rewritten with no change if Anubis wasn't a 16 year old and was a proper god. No Saltnubis, which is an added bonus. Polyamory should be for adults, not children or teenager minors.

Also, Anubis did have a wife and daughter-Anput and Kebechet respectively. And they never even get mentioned.

Ok, even if Rick didn't mention them, that Saltnubis plot was horrible.

Also, Isis possessing a British white woman is a little odd when she's Egyptian. Why don't they possess Egyptian people instead. Is it because the main religion is Islam? Then why didn't they just possess Egyptian immigrants? Oh well. not sure about this one.

But TKC had something that Magnus Chase did not. It actually respected its gods and reminded the readers that while they took on human forms and possessed humans, they were in fact, still gods. We could tell that they were gods and they inspired a certain amount of awe when they were around.

The gods in MCGA.......just don't have this spark.

I mean, yes, they WERE funny and human at times, but there's a reason that they were worshipped and respected as gods.

And it's frustrating because they should have had that spark. Yes, we see Odin's cunning by disguising himself as a troll, but Heimdall is also made out to be a complete idiot who just takes selfies and neglects his duties of guarding the Bifrost Bridge which is very important.

And Loki.........actually, Loki was kind of evil in the myths, so this one is ok. I'm still a little disappointed at how he never cared for Alex or Sam, though.

I know I'm treading sensitive waters with this one, but there is something nagging at me about how they're portrayed.

You do realise that you can like media and be critical of it? You do realise that you can dislike some aspects of media (like mythological inaccuracies, cultural disrespect, the sexualisation and adultification of girls of color to name a few among the many terrible things that Rick Riordan wrote.)

I do agree with you that OP shouldn't feel guilty for liking Percy Jackson. There's nothing wrong with that, but it's harmful if you can only like it and not be critical of it. You should always be critical of things, even what you love.

Also, it's pretty fun and therapeutic to be a hater at times, not that you'd know, since you're set on defending your wonderful Rick Riordan (who, by the way, is immature and refuses to apologise for his harmful representation of Piper and Samirah, two females of color).

The theme of PJO is representation, but the representation in question is horrible written and many fans have criticised it. They're not hating, they're simply criticising, which I would like to clarify are two different things by the way, since you don't seem to be capable of understanding this basic knowledge. I'd recommend scrolling through the rr crit tag to cure your Rick Riordanitis, though you don't seem like the type to want to challenge your worldview.

You say 'anyone with a brain' yet I've seen several people with brains criticise (I'm going to clarify that criticism and hater are two different things because I fear that your lack of a brain will cause you to forget very quickly) Rick's representation and (at times) second-rate writing.

And the fact is that Percy Jackson is one of the most famous series out there. It's not just some generic fantasy novel that throws in some representation, pats itself on the back and calls it a day (Though Rick Riordan did do what I just said).

Millions of people are reading it and absorbing this harmful representation, thinking it's true. It feeds into the narrative of Indigenous girls being sexualised, it feeds into the narrative of black girls being adultified, it feeds into the narrative of WOC having to have exotic features to be seen as beautiful and it feeds into so many more implicit biases that are present, unconscious prejudices which we need to fight against.

There are so many good fans of PJO (like my friends) but the toxic fans took over the fandom

Yeah, bunch of things are wrong and offensive, but these books were also the entire childhood for some kids. For me, I read them while struggling with depression and they became a comfort. That's not to say there aren't flaws, there are several major flaws in the story.

But I see people bashing Solangelo shippers? Like, canon they weren't the best, but for me personally, Nico was the first character I could relate to. Gay, traumatized, religious trauma, familial issues... He could have been written better, especially his coming out, but I actually really like how the good fans have turned him into a better character. They gave characters depth and turned them into actual people instead of minor characters.

So fuck canon but seriously, can we just appreciate the literature we grew up with and stop bashing people who focus more on fanon or personal headcanons?

Like, I literally feel so guilty for being a fan of these series now because we have toxic fans and then the antis who, while they have valid points, forget how much the saga impacted loves positively. Like guys just be decent people and respect others opinions without making them hate themselves
