The entire PREMISE of The Sun and the Star is built on the worst logic ever.
Hades sends his son to literal hell knowing that he could die just to get a Titan (who has his memories back, mind you) out of it. Because apparently 'Bob was getting too loud'.
If Hades can get that satyr out of Tartarus, then why the hell can't he get Bob out of Tartarus?
And don't tell me he can't, because Bob was literally allowed to be a janitor at Hades' palace when his memories were wiped. And Bob decided to be good, so Hades could easily take him out of there
This just says how bad The Sun and the Star is as a book.
I mean, why didn't Rick just give us short stories of Nico and Will between HOO and ToA? That would have been way better.
What if Zeus had swallowed Beryl to prevent Thalia from being born.
Ok, but when have we actually SEEN a good LGBTQ ship being DEVELOPED AND WRITTEN PROPERLY?
Like with Percabeth, you can see their development over the course of the series. WHEN HAVE WE SEEN THAT WITH GAY MALES OR LESBIAN FEMALES? I've never seen it (if you have, though, tell me please.)
We almost never get gay characters as major characters. Sure, Piper Mclean is bisexual, but we never knew it until the literal END of Trials of Apollo even though she was a major character in HOO and even starred as a side character for Trials of Apollo. Was her POV in HOO about discovering her bisexuality and coming out? No. Piper's representation is so shoved in that it barely counts, TBH. Though that is just my opinion on this matter-no need to agree with it.
And Nico di Angelo is gay, but his rep was handled terribly. A forced coming out with no closure and being paired off with a random side character to 'prove' his gayness. Also, Will being a terrible partner for Nico (sharing his medical information without authority, and being someone's doctor and boyfriend is problematic for boundaries. Nico could have had another doctor. Seriously, are there no Athena kids in the infirmary, or no trainee Apollo kids?).
I'm just saying that I'm not sure if Solangelo is good representation because we don't really get any development and whatever development there is on Nico's side is somewhat deteriorated. We don't even get much of Will as a character. No development at all.
And with the lesbian couple, Jo and Emmie, in ToA? No development-plus they got kicked out of a supposedly safe space for being lesbians. Very problematic.
And Piper and Shel? NOTHING. No page time. None whatsoever. No development or good writing.
Lavinia and Poison Oak? We're told, not shown. We don't even see Poison Oak.
Fierrochase is the only developed ship, and even then, it's a little rushed. (Just my opinion).
You know, it frustrates me to NO END that Rick keeps churning out these useless novels when he has two goldmines in Percy Jackson.
Said goldmines are-
a) MORTAL PARENTS IN PJO?
And I'm not talking about the Seven's parents and Reyna's and Nico's.
I'm TALKING about Dionysus and his two children Castor and Pollux. What about their mother? Who is she? How did Dionysus get to know her when he was at CHB? Did he date her before or after his punishment? He does say that he has a century to complete before he can go back to Olympus..........
I'm TALKING about Hermes, Travis, Connor and their mother. She must have been REALLY good for Hermes to come back a second time. There's nothing about her. Nothing. Imagine what Rick could write about her?
I'm TALKING about Clarisse La Rue and her mother. Why was Ares attracted to her mother? What is her relationship with her mother? What about Ares, Ms La Rue and Clarisse? Why is Clarisse a year round camper? Is her mother abusive to her? What about Clarisse, Ares and her mother?
I'm TALKING about Drew Tanaka's father. Was Drew born in Japan? Was her father an immigrant? And if she was born in Japan, what kind of discrimination did she face for being a bastard child? What drew Aphrodite to Mr Tanaka?
All wasted potential.
B) WHAT CAMP HALF BLOOD WAS LIKE IN THE EARLY CENTURIES.
All right, go check out THIS LINK.
So I saw ONE amazing post talking about CHB before and during WW2 that my stupid self did not like for some reason. If any of you know where it is, please link me to it.
Aaaaaaaaaand that's it. No one is exploring this absolutely unused potential, least of all Rick. Huh. WHY IS THE PJO FANDOM SO BORING-
If you know tumblr posts that talk about CHB in the early centuries, please send them to me.
Ok, so, regarding the Nico and Bianca situation in PJO. So, people argue against the parentification of Bianca. First, her memories were wiped, then she and Nico were taken to the Lotus Casino, which made them forget all their worries! How could she have raised him then? And, yeah, you're right. But, hold on, we know that they were taken out of the Lotus Casino sometime after TLT. Now, they in there for 70 years. We don't know their reaction to modern technology, but I'm pretty sure that they DEFINITELY weren't used to it. Kids their age (biologically speaking) would know how to use basic technology in that era, and they didn't. Hell, they barely knew anything. Their syllabus was probably different, too. And can you imagine being snapped out of a month-long fun vacation, having to leave the literal LOTUS CASINO, and then being told that for a second time that hey, your parents are dead, but don't worry! They left a HUGE trust fund for you! Well, a trust fund wouldn't be enough to alleviate Bianca's fears. She and Nico only have each other right now, and yeah, they were in different dorms and classes, but is that really enough? Like, imagine your parents are dead, and you go to a hotel to have a month long fun vacation, but suddenly YOU'RE RIPPED OUT and then you remember that and you have a younger brother to take care of, and now you're in a whole different era and you don't really KNOW anything, you don't know what to do, what to study, maybe you're even falling behind in class. And now you know that sure, there might be a trust fund, but how long till it runs out? And then you'll have to fend for yourself AND your brother. It's just, I think being thrown into a whole new era really subconsciously affected Nico and Bianca in a bad way. I think Bianca thought that she was somewhat parentified because their parents were dead, and the trust fund wasn't eternal, and one day she'd have to fend for Nico and herself.
If you want to argue, please do.
Am I the only one indifferent to Percabeth who doesn't ship Percy with anyone?
I’m gonna say it - practically everything Nico ever did getting retconned as “because he had a crush on Percy” is some of the most amatonormative shit I’ve seen in my entire life.
True words. True words.
It's extremely annoying that many people think that a person would move mountains and do impossible things only for someone whom they love romantically. This is just not true.
There are people who would do this for their friends. Menelaus said that he would drive out the people of an entire kingdom just so that Odysseus could come and rule there with his people, and he didn't like Odysseus romantically.
It seems that Rick Riordan cannot for the life of him put platonic relationships before romance-or rather, he can't do this without involving a virginity oath. His heteronormativity is crystal clear when you take a critical look at his books and Nico and Leo's unnecessary romantic relationships.
I just found out that, according to Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, if a god broke their Styx vow, they were rendered insensible for a year and then banished from divine society for nine years.
Imagine that in Percy Jackson. I know that Rick couldn't do it due to plot reasons, and Zeus was too powerful to be banished, but imagine Zeus helping Beryl raise Thalia and adjusting to being mortal, and then maybe they have Jason who's fully mortal.
And just imagine Poseidon helping Sally raise Percy. Oh my god, the fanfiction ideas with this one would be amazing. WRITERS, DO YOUR THING!
One of the most incorrect yet common takes on Bianca di Angelo is that she should have gone to CHB and made sure it was ok for Nico before leaving with the Hunters.
I'm sorry, did you not read TTC properly? You need to go back and reread it if you think that this is true.
Artemis only told her hunters that they would stay longer at CHB after Bianca became a Hunter.
Bianca did not know that the Hunters were planning to stay at CHB. In her POV, she could either join the Hunters or stay with Nico and not get a second chance at joining what could possibly be a chance for freedom (in her POV).
Bianca did not know that the Hunters would stay at CHB until after she became one. She was scared of losing her only chance at freedom (in her thoughts) and made a rash decision. Stop blaming her for it. And stop with this moronic take. Please stop it.
This is a treasure. I'm treasuring it. You've given me a treasure.
Messing with Elon Musk would probably be the best thing for Artemis Fowl. It would be a field day for him-Christmas like you said. If we take it a step further, Artemis could secretly mess with the entire Trump department because they're so incompetent rn. He'd be shaking his head in disbelief while internally laughing hard enough to cry.
IMAGINE WHAT THE FAIRY WORLD WOULD BE DOING LMAOOOOOOOOOOO
Your tags are so right honestly. This is the one time that the Fowl family would be back in crime-the funniest thing is that it's kind of an ethical crime, isn't it, which is an oxymoron-but it's still a crime.
Not to get political or anything, but is anyone else wondering how our beloved fictional characters would react to everything that's going in America and consequently the rest of the world right now?
Hi, I love you blog!! I have a question: why do Annabeth stans/percabeth shippers love to victim blame Percy, who is also a victim of abuse?
Hi, thanks! It's nice to know that my blog gives people some happiness :D
Well, in my opinion, it's because some of them love Annabeth and don't want to accept the fact that her toxic traits are their toxic traits, so they deflect the blame onto Percy, because it's easier to blame him for being stupid, which isn't true-they just make it up.
And if anyone brings up how he acted in WOTTG, they can forget it, since we can all agree that his characterization was magnificently ruined in that book (Annabeth has to do 90% of the thinking for him? Really? No.)
I've seen a Percabeth stan say that Annabeth is stressed out with Percy and feels like she has to act like his mom, which is bullshit-again, we can disregard WOTTG because nearly everyone agrees that it's blatant flanderisation and ruination of the characterisation of the trio.
In fact, Percy is not Annabeth's son (bleh) but her equal. He comforts her at many points throughout the series and he even saves her life multiple times. The whole charm of Percabeth is that they're on equal footing and that they know and balance each other out. To liken Annabeth as a condescending and long-suffering mother figure towards Percy resoundingly ruins that......which is not surprising, given Rick's track record of ruining whatever good he had left in his books.
Also, Rick himself has admitted that he's writing Percy and Annabeth's characters to be a reflection of the TV shows characters, who are different from the book characters. It seems like he's mixing both of them, so book Percy's characterisation in these books isn't accurate.
But also, I do not think that Percy is faultless-in fact, there are times when he is the problem.
I've read the baby reveal in COTG and everyone being nervous of Percy's temper when they break news to him (and not even bad news-being pregnant in this situation wasn't bad news, it was great for them!) is not ok. They shouldn't have been nervous-they should have been excited.
He says that they were probably afraid that he'd make all the pipes in the building explode. If he's temperamental enough to do that and they're all scared of it when breaking good news to him, then that's not healthy. I definitely would have written the scene differently to reflect their excitement and not their fear of his reaction.
Also, the fact that he intentionally ragebaits Bacchus is extremely foolish on his part. If Annabeth did that, I'd think that most of her antis would leap onto her like a hound on a hare, but they're suddenly silent because it's Percy? Pretty hypocritical of them.
Anyway, I hope this answer satisfies you. Feel free to ask me anything else if you'd like.
