Beautiful morning here in NYC. Some more poster work for the inimitable DJ Lani Love. Went for a dot instead of my (what's slowly becoming trademark) loose stipple patterning.
TV - Adventure Time
I’ve been at my Home home in Maryland the past few weeks. I’ve been doing a whole lot of bicycling (they have hills here, real hills) and catching up on some design work. Being that there isn’t a whole lot of night life (not something I take much advantage of in NYC when I’m there but it’s nice to pretend I would), I’ve also been catching up on some television. I was completely unaware of one of the awesomest animated things ever made: Adventure Time. Completely hooked. Extra funny, some awesome character design, and moments of great stretchy animation. To a lesser extent, I’ve been playing some cell phone games too, one being Sword & Sorcery. And now, these two things combined.
The 36th Chamber of Shaolin
Morning warmup today of Chia-Hui Liu in The 36th Chamber of Shaolin. More Photoshop coloring technique practice - just so many things to do in there.

Bird One: Bufflehead
Kicked off the new bird-poster project in earnest today. I’ve a duck to show for it. Messing around with a few art styles and so far this is the one that is sticking. Not something I’ve really done before but I’m liking the direction. I especially like the slight caricature look of this guy while retaining that aviary nobility… Much more to come. This is 1/30 (I think).
Oye
Been mega busy with works but this one slipped out in all the pixel work I’ve been doing.
Been reading a bunch of books from the Parker series. They are excellent, no-nonsense crime books about one hard hombre. I had a little difficulty coming up with a design that worked, because he is described in one way, but reads in another. Described in the first book as:
Big and shaggy, with flat square shoulders. His hands, swinging curve-fingered at his sides, looked like they were molded of brown clay by a sculptor who thought big and liked veins. His hair was brown and dry and dead, blowing around his head like a poor toupee about to fly loose. His face was a chipped chunk of concrete, with eyes of flawed onyx. His mouth was a quick stroke, bloodless.
Throughout the books, he seems to get a bit more charming and attractive to women (maybe a bit of the Bond progression, from blank mold to a model man's man). I went with a more grizzled look, huge hands and an overall brutish appearance. Characters often call him the meanest man they've ever met, but he's just brutally principled and a fun character to read because of it.
Hello all! I make music under the moniker Prescription Strength Hugs and have been doing so for a whole lot of years. I've decided to put out a compilation collecting tracks from the first four EPs I made during 2005-2007. There is some good stuff in here, some rougher stuff but it's all the stuff that's made me who I am as a maker today. All instruments played and songs written by me. Hope you enjoy! Take a look at the newly set up Bandcamp page to download this puppy for free (but don't let that stop you from spending copious amounts of digi-cash on it). Thanks.

Starting a new project that catalogues the main villain from each X Files episode: X-Villainy. Starting from season three since that’s what I’m on currently, but I’ll eventually get to them all.
Season 3 Episode 1, in which the Well-manicured Man is introduced, member of a secret society of powerfully shady men. Guy definitely has some pull, and his alliances come into question, but remains a pretty bad dude, working with the Smoking Man and all.
This is part of an ongoing project to catalogue the villains from the television series X Files. Check out the others here!
Continuing on this Record Store Week "release all my music" bonanza comes Prescription Strength Hugs' Detuskit EP. I'd consider this part of my "Serengeti" phase - lots of drums, recorders, saws and various percussions. Check out the album art and listen to the tracks! You can get the album on my Bandcamp page, thanks!

Lobster Bird
This is a turtled lobster bird. It’s a very sad combination of things that came to me while staring at a wall. If you want to know, this is how most of my ideas come to me, staring at walls.
