Please pleas e pl e a se share more of your gaang kids headcannons I love them. And I'm also begging you to elaborate on what Sokka teaches the kids specifically!
yes yes yes anon thank you for the validation™!
sokka and bumi have a really close relationship since bumi is the only non-bender of the group and sokka knows how that feels. bumi, therefore, is the only one who gets boomerang and sword lessons
sokka takes it upon himself to tell izumi all the stupid things zuko did as a teen “he invaded the northern water tribe on his own in the middle of a blizzard?! because he was...stubborn?” “yes, yes he did. now go bully him about it”
he also teaches izumi to yell that she must REGAIN HER HONOR at every opportune moment. zuko is ready to murder sokka about it
kya and bumi both inherit their sense of humour from sokka. they follow katara and aang around spouting bad sokka-style puns. katara swears she’s never leaving tenzin alone with him
sokka is secretly the mastermind behind all bumi’s prank wars. he’s a tactician, after all - let’s be real, he can pull off the best pranks
once, a extremely drunk teenage kya turned up on his doorstep because she knows her parents would be furious if they saw her like that. sokka isn’t exactly happy with her, but he lets her crash there and tells aang and katara she’s okay. her parents never actually find out how drunk she was and kya is always grateful to sokka about it
tenzin tends to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders and sokka is the only one who can get him to lighten up. he teaches him sokka-approved stress relief methods, including but not limited to: singing terrible and foul-mouthed sea shanties at the top of his lungs, getting mani-pedis and learning how to do kyoshi warrior makeup. tenzin still uses them today, leading to an extremely awkward interaction wherein korra catches him painting his toenails
sidenote: katara never forgives him for the time she heard tenzin sing a sea shanty
lin and suyin are the only ones who don’t get taught how to annoy their mother, because sokka can never quite bring himself to be mean to toph.
lin likes listening to his stories. he tells her all about how he planned the invasion on the day of black sun, about how he and zuko broke into the boiling rock prison. he makes a special effort to tell lin stories about how brave and strong her mom is
su gets the best advice from sokka. if she’s feeling low or like she’s not getting enough attention from toph, sokka’s the one she turns to. he always helps her talk through her emotions and is the one who encouraged her to reach out to lin when their relationship became rocky
Iroh: People work their entire lives to find spirits and access the spirit world. It has taken years of dedication and study for me to reach the small part of it that I’m able to find.
Sokka, who accidentally steered a canoe to where the Avatar had been frozen for a century and then fell in love with the moon and also spent 24 hours in the spirit world that one time and was the only one who the hallucinations flat-out spoke to in the magical swamp: what, like it’s hard?
Sokka isn't "high intelligence low wisdom", he's an adhd genius
he sure fucking is and idk why we have to keep saying it for people
It just dawned on me that Sokka truly is a man of the arts. Haiku, painting, an appreciation for theatre(and yes, I do consider pro wrestling as a form of theatre, which is seen how hyped he was during Earth Rumble VI). He is the ideal engineering major with a huge appreciation for art.
don’t forget sculpting (his blubbering blob monster sand sculpture of suki), carving (the bear fish he carved for yue), and set design (he praised the effects in the boy in the iceberg). i’ve always said that i think there’s a false dichotomy between stem & liberal arts, because true science is a lot more theoretical and abstract, philosophical and artistic than we like to give it credit for. sokka is very logical, yes, but he’s also incredibly creative, which are the two key traits required in puzzle-solving. sokka solves problems through creative means; that’s what makes him so brilliant. but we see he enjoys harnessing that creativity elsewhere, too. it’s a shame that he never had time for art between the ages of 10-16 (”you can’t fight the fire nation with fun,” after all), because i do think with some practice he’d be genuinely great at art, and it’s clear he loves it.
