am i… the only one who thinks sokka would improve on his art? that he would practice and get better, and would develop the habit of just absently drawing what he saw? his sketches of wartime water tribe life being displayed in cultural centers, his drawings of early cranefish town, his sketches of the FIre Lord and the Avatar and Master Beifong and the Kyoshi warriors becoming important cultural pieces in themselves? maybe they’re not photorealistic paintings, but the feeling of intimacy of these important– near mythical– figures in history being drawn by their close friend… Fire Lord Zuko with his hair down, Avatar Aang with his children, Master Beifong’s concentration as she practiced her forms, all of them having tea together. maybe he draws the group every time they get together, and all of these drawings are donated to a museum after Aang passes away. shit dude, artists are valuable!!
reasons aunt wu should be in the white lotus include but are not limited to: a) they need more women and b) she can continue to ruin the life of her greatest nemesis, sokka
Watching Avatar I found myself always forgetting that Sokka is an underated genius. He's such a doofus and sometimes a down right idiot but then he does something genius and then ur like, oh yeah, I keep forgetting he does have a brain. I remember being mosly confused by his character????? Like why are u getting super serious, ur supposed to be funny????? Yeah it's called depth and that's what I love abt the series, none of them are one thing, especially sokka. I think his character shows that contrast the most but I feel because aince he's not a bender or Zuko, he gets kinda side lined. Honestly just seriously watching it again he is such an underrated character. He's the only one since the very beginning who pretty selflessly supported his friends. Katara was sweet and she really really cared but I feel like she was often swept up in her own head with things. Not bashing Katara because we all know she's a badass who would sell her soul if it meant saving her friends. Just Sokka never fell apart on them, never made his problems other people's and when he did need stability he went to his friends in a healthy manner. He might not have always been emotionally sensitive but I really feel like he was the rock of the group, the grounding constant that kept them together. He couldn't bend but he was still a nececity to the team because he was strong in ways the others weren't, not that it's a bad thing on their end. He's just a good boi. A dummy thicc brain boi who drinks the quenchiest of cactus water and is hella supportive and responsible. He made battle plans, kept the gaang on time, BASICALLY LEAD A REBELLION BY HIMSELF, was super supportive of aang when it didn't work, always helping toph (don't think I didn't notice who's arm she grabbed when she couldn't use her earth bending to see) supported his sister even when he didn't agree and was super quick to forgive zuko and treat him like a friend. I feel like he's often written off as just "the funny one" and he deserves better respect than that. This wasn't really prompted by anything, I just wanted to say this. Sokka is an A+ dude.

Day 29: dragon
“Maybe we can control hothead! Then he can make us pizzas, play video games with me, and even clean my room!!” Season 5 ep 3
It drives me nuts when people boil Mikey down to “the dumb one” or “the silly one” (I’m looking at you 2012) because he is not just a one-dimensional character. He has many layers.
Mikey is such an important part of the team because of his compassion and empathy. He has a deep emotional connection with his loved ones, and seeks to connect even with their foes in hoping to stop the fighting. I would go as far to say he is more emotionally intelligent than his brothers, and every decision he makes is guided by his heart, which is a driving point of his character.
Here’s a few examples of things he’s done that reflect this point:
Becomes friends with Woody, who works at a pizza place and is able to bring them pizzas
Trying to defuse the fight with Slash when the turtles first met him, and later when he finds out Slash is part of the mutanimals gives him candy and befriends him.
Leaves Splinter when he decides to lead the foot clan because Mikey knows it will only lead to more violence. His brothers try to convince him to come back, but after Splinter tells Jenny to kill someone they realize Mikey was right and leave Splinter as well.
Holding a Christmas party to raise the spirits of his brothers after they left Splinter
Becoming friends with all of the mutanimals, even though he disagrees with Hob and the things he does
And that’s only a couple examples. The point is that Michelangelo deserves more appreciation. It probably saddens him that he isn’t able to live normally among humans, but it never stops him from making a friend around every corner.
Which is why every time I think of Mikey I always think of the quote “He wishes only to love…and to be loved.” And honestly? He deserves to.
Wait but the real question is, which Ghibli movies do the Gaang like??
I think many people, in their quest to complain about the unrealistic skills Sokka showed with a sword after so little time, forget that he knows how to use a shit ton of weapons already.
Machetes, Clubs, Boomerangs, Sabres, Spears, and even Daggers. Sokka learned a lot of shit with these things, before he ever got a sword. Dude could slap darts out of the air with one swing of his machete. His aim with the boomerang is terrifying.
Sokka wasn’t some untrained pampered prince who’d never touched a weapon in his life prior to approaching Piandao.
