Modern Nouveau... Another one that I've come to like, abstract lines and shapes with hints of art nouveau.
Museum. This is one of my top favorites... I love how the balance and composition turned out!
Appropriate for today, as Lewis Hamilton's number is 44... Not where the design originally came from, but an afterthought that made it all work wonderfully. Best of luck to him in the Mexican GP.
Seeing as this one is sorta time-sensitive, I figured I'd go ahead and post up today's design as a bonus. 10/31
The Alchemist.
A graff-style work while at work...
Alright, so bonus post for the day! I did this the other night for a friend of mine... In my mind it would be a great tattoo design...
Another very recent one. At some point I lost track of what order I'd done these in, so for a time, chronology means nothing.
A favorite of mine. Calligraphy done only with a Pilot G2 pen... Playing with making an insignia.
This was number 5. And one of the best so far. I turned this one into a full canvas.
The first of many... But really though.
There’s a pair of lights outside the window, perhaps a construction barrier, flashing at differing intervals, sometimes lighting perfectly in sync, at other times completely opposite. The long-sequence pattern catches his attention, as he tries to decipher some hidden code within. There is none, but by the time he realizes it, he’s already forgotten where he is. When he is. Everything bleeds, runs together, impossibly intertwined. A mirage of the mind.
But no, he isn’t crazy. Not at all.
Japanese ramen bars have more perks than simply great food... there are numerous perfect pictures just waiting to be captured.
Posting up the first one of these the other day inspired me to make another. As before, I took one of my favorite photos from my abandoned-urban-architecture explorations, stylized it, and then added some sci-fi aesthetic/neon color flair. Perhaps I’ll keep progressing this theme further and further, but for now, I leave it here.
This.
I uploaded this on my ArtStation a while back, but for some reason forgot to put it up here. Simply called, “Icosahedron,” this digital piece pretty much sums up my favorite design aesthetic. Monochrome with a pop of color. (And, of course, injected with some abstract sci-fi feel for good measure.)
Captured on a chilly November afternoon, in the street-side shade of a Chicago cafe.
Another linework sketch for possible graffiti art. This time, went for some Phantogram fan art. Just let my imagination run wild while listening to Voices (and Nightlife and Eyelid Movies). It’s straight crazy, but I think I could pull it off on a wall with some practice.
(I really like the idea of graffiti being a coded language of sorts, where only the artist, and the people who know how he or she works, can read their letters. Kinda what I was striving for here.)
“Hang on. I wanna see something.”
He glances in either direction, checking for traffic. Looks both ways again as he crosses the street, more furtively this time. Her footsteps follow, slowly, then quicker, as she jogs across the deserted side street.
“Somehow, I’m thinking this is going to be illegal...”
“Oh, don’t worry... it most definitely is.”
Around the backside of the crumbling wall--perhaps at one point it had been a room or enclosed courtyard of sorts, though now it’s little more than chewed gravel and a sparse collection of weeds even more insistent than the winter chill cutting through his gloves--a simple linework teddy bear, five feet tall and quite pudgy around the middle, sits with his back against the corner. The bright orange spray isn’t even faded. “Hah! Yes, it’s still here.”
“That’s so badass! And completely adorable at the same time!” She chuckles. “I’m feeling like this must have been you?”
“Feel like it might’ve been,” he grins back.
New tag... taking it to another level. Hopefully this will be on a wall someday :)
So, I actually finished this one about a month ago, and just forgot to put it up here. Everything you see here is just paint and paper (finally got to make use of a special glow-in-the-dark spray that I bought a while back). The maze was drawn and then hand cut by me.

(It looks even better in person... Hard to capture since I don't have a badass camera.)
Black. White. Wacky.
Inspired by Red Bull F1 Racing's crazy test livery at Jerez.
My man Stegall, going at it... like this one a lot.
Internet. Enter a net. In a web, Caught I’ve got To break free Of this spider’s Clutch. Bow legged and Beaten; where is My digital crutch? Mind in dust. It’s been mined Into the cybernetic Crust. All blood and wire And Ethernet veins I’m hoping for an Earth that remains, A body that restrains, A mind that retains. Let’s hope one day We can break free Of this web we’ve Entered into. One day. But, not yet. We’re Still caught in the Internet.
KONTROL-- Here's an old one that I finished probably about 2 months ago and never posted up. Was going for a simple, retro sci-fi look mixed with Cold War propaganda...
This is a favorite of mine because it was completely designed and colored with pencil, pen, and marker... no sprays.
This was a fun little experiment... I was trying to get better at sketching, so I told myself I was going to sketch something everyday, no matter what, no matter how I felt. It's always good to just make yourself do something, even when you don't have the motivation.
What ended up happening, however, was I started drawing silly little robots. I have a few of these guys that, collectively, I've taken to calling "The Robots of Whimsy."
This happy little fellow, I like to call Hippo_bot_amus.
A bit darker in tone, a bit more minimalist, and not using any marker for text over top. Utilizing only two colors, other than the white of the paper, this one is called "Seep," sort of a play on the melting of one's character, worn down by the world, the darkness latching on and making one's true colors bleed.
It's not all bad though. If you're observant, you'll find a simple, more lighthearted message embedded within.
Thanks for looking!
This is a logo, or "tag" if you will, that I made for myself a little while back when I really started into experimenting with physical mediums of visual art. When I tell people what I do, though, they ask where they can see my work, and I've never really had a good answer. It only seems right that this should be that place. Because this blog is ArtificeLux...
So there it is: this blog stretches back to a time I don't even recognize sometimes, but let's call this the beginning...
