Some more points (Cause, I would love to see more MaruMa novel readers!):

In the engagement scene, it is easily overlooked in the anime but, it is mentioned in the novel that half the reason Wolfram went out of control in rage was because of the shampoo Yuuri used from Lady Cecilie's collection. It functions to heighten the emotions of s person, mainly aimed to increase the level of attraction from a simple admiration to more intense reaction. But, since the third son, with his already fiery nature, was already royally pissed and highly disappointed with the decision of putting some random otherworlder (let's just accept this as a word for now) instead of someone like his older brother (Gwendal) who has been devoted to the country for ages. (Novel vol 1 chapter 4)

There is his immature attitude as well, and his discriminating behaviour which I won't deny, but the novel has a lot of character development for him- instead of the anime just repeating the same skit every single episode, that made even me search up fanfics where I could see some justice!(The only thing I'm glad for the anime is the cliff scene-which solidified my love for yuuram) Till I came upon the glorious collection of MaruMa novels!! The sheer amount of YuuRam moments makes my eyes water. I can never forget that taisetsuna hito that Yuuri randomly blurted during his musings.

P.S: I love CrossHeart. It makes me go, "This is Wolfram". Because he is so passionate and emotional, I am totally convinced that he'd never cry if Yuuri left, because he cares for Yuuri's feelings. The thought of him turning a lot into Gwendal is highly plausible than him crying silently, because he is just that kind of a person. I'll end it here, or there won't be an end..

Just read that awesome novel. Trust me, I found it after I watched the anime (and read the manga) and I think that way is better that knowing about the anime after the novel, because then you wouldn't feel royally pissed while watching it and you'll also find the novel even more amazing (though it already is).

I know its a wholesome anime (and i don't know if there's a manga of them) but have you ever think that Wolfram's treatment to Yuuri is a bit on the abusive side?

I mean come on they know that he's from a different world so they should expect he doesn't know their culture, yet when Yuuri accidentally propose to Wolfram, he challenged him into a duel without an out and when he loses he's suddenly ok with the engagement? He's bossing Yuuri around, getting irrational jealous and being confrontational about it.

And Yuuri. . . I think Yuuri got thrown into the deep that he's just agreeing to avoid conflicts. Being the teenager that he is. Has no one ever pointed out by to them?(OC or crossover)

What I feel about Wolfram is that he's born royalty and suddenly gets dethroned by an outsider. He wants an in or control inside or just didn't want to get demoted to just a noble/soldier. He's family is just along with the ride (subconsciously or not) aside from Conrad (because I love him!). He has so say in it 'cause he half human and didn't know about it mostly.

No, I think the popularity of the conyuu ship is due to the staple yaoi trope of the 90s and early 2000s in Japan of having a “big guy/little guy" relationship.BL fangirls in Japan identify with ‘the little guy’ in that relationship. If you know a little bit about BL/yaoi in the 90s, you know that the relationships between the big guy and little guy were usually abusive and rape-themed. “ I love you” followed by rape, which made the ‘little guy’ realized that “Oh my! I’m in love with him, too.”This is sadly a mirror of how abused Japanese women were/are. Women in Japan have, in general, at some point in their lives (especially when younger), been pressured/forced into sex by men. The rationalization of being raped is of course: “ I’m in love with him”. And BL (yaoi) mangas were a mirror of this for many women, who saw in this rationalization of “rape into love” a defense mechanism for what had happened to them. Foreign fangirls’ simply copied Japanese fangirls’ tropes (probably not knowing about the rampant rape culture that originated it; and simply trying to stay true to ‘the original fans’).——————————————————————–Now as for maruma: Conyuu is pretty much the staple big guy/ little guy. BL fans are used to the format, and this is why it’s so appealing them. Also, the fangirls wanna be ‘the little guy’ for Conrad because he’s such a stereotypical character of everything Japanese women want (1. Tall 2. Broken/needs fixing, but nice. 3. Prince, but humble about it,  4.Protector swordsman that will die for you ). Of course they like conyuu. Now in comes Takabayashi-sensei (who wanted to create a trauma for Yuuri using Conrad’s death, that’s why she originally made them so close. Conrad was written to die in novel 5), and ships Yuuri and Wolfram.  She makes sure that they’re both childish. That they’re both the same height. That neither is quite smarter or more mature than the other. They’re “equal", in every way. Their relationship develops slowly. First they become friends, then they fall for each other (happens for Wolf a bit faster than for Yuuri).She famously puts in one of the drama cds that ”the order of the names in the ship doesn’t matter” in a dialogue between Gunter and his editor (parallel of Takabayashi-sensei and GEG) in ”His Excellency and the MA Love Journal!?” Drama cd 24, track 6 .  (- for those who don’t know the order of the name in a ship in BL informs who is ‘topping’  in the relationship- ).  

Sensei makes this couple with two characters who are equal in the year 2000, and it took almost two decades for Japanese women to get in with the times (Takabayashi-sensei is rumored to have lived in America, probably why her thinking was so forward in comparison with Japanese women).

So, no, I don’t think Temari-sensei is to blame for conyuu, but she happily catered to it and overdid the Conrad/Yuuri scenes . (I remember a particular drawing where Conrad and Yuuri looked like they were about to kiss and the story that she drew that for had nothing to do with it XD- (It’s the Hajimari no Tabi ending one XDD . I laughed so hard when I finally read the story that was so completely unrelated to the drawing).

Ok, fine. Maybe like a 2% of the blame we can assign to Temari-sensei, but the rest was cultural. :DPS. Yes, the novels are the source material.

THIS is EXACTLY WHY I LOVE the LIGHT NOVEL!! Takabayashi-sensei's work is amazing!!

Also Wolfram always says he "loves and respects" Yuuri, which is not convincing enough as a confession because it basically refers to his love for him as a king.

There are no headcanons needed, as Yuuri has already confessed plenty in novels and manga.

Manga:

Chapter 108 where he tells Wolfram “I finally caught you” , using the same words Wolf used when he saved him. As Wolfram will say later on “the catching” is of course, falling in love.

Novels:

Novel 9, chapter 9

-He tells Wolfram “You’re cute” (Wolfram misunderstands and thinks Yuuri wants to turn him into a human sacrifice. Oh novels, I love you so~!) 

In Japanese culture: You don’t go around telling people they’re cute, unless you like them.

Novel 14, chapter 7-

-The bed scene because it’s a tree that keeps on giving is a confession too (1)“Thank goodness I still have you beside me.”(2)“You’re being so honest about your feelings, it’s sickening.”(3) “I don’t even have the strength to pretend anymore.”

Not only does Yuuri confess (1), but Wolfram acknowledges the confession and makes sure that Yuuri is saying what he thinks he’s saying (2); Yuuri confirms (3)

This scene is really spectacular in the drama cds (cd56, disc 1, track 11), first because there are some added words to it, second because you can hear the tone in their voices. Although the word ‘sickening’ might not intuitively feel like love in English, it works in the context in Japanese. Wolfram is pretty much saying “you’re being straightforward about your feelings” and Yuuri is saying, “yeah I am”.

-Novel 15, chapter 5Yuuri asks Wolfram :“What’s the meaning of that punch to my stomach? Do you want a divorce? To remarry another person?”

I think we’re a bit past “confessions” once Yuuri starts assuming that they’re married.

- End of Seisakoku arc (nv.15, chapter 8)Marriage talk continues: Yuuri accuses Wolfram of domestic violence…. If you’re not family, it’s not domestic violence, it’s just violence. Once again, Wolfram misunderstands the whole thing. In novel 15.5 he’ll talk about Domestic violence again, this time feeling bad himself for having stabbed Wolfram back then.

And for those of you who haven’t read my past analyses:Japanese people don’t say I love you (aishiteiru is never used in rl). They rarely say “I like you”. A vast majority of MARRIED couples have never said “I love/like you” (suki da). 

In Japanese there are all sorts of euphemisms to say you like someone, without having to use the words.

And if saying that “The moon looks beautiful tonight” is a love confession, I think that asking someone if they are trying to divorce you, has a very “we’re a married ” tone to it, no? 

AND, if the ‘Love Letter’ story in the last doujinshi, where they write things they like about each other, aren’t 26 damn love confessions then I don’t know what is!

Finally, Wolfram

It’s lovely how yuuram fans (not just you, lovely batkray) all want a confession from Yuuri …. but no one wants one from Wolf? Why not? 

Is it because he tells Yuuri he’s beautiful? Well, guess what? Yuuri always replies with a “you’re more beautiful than I am” to Wolf.

Is it because he sneaks into Yuuri’s bed? Well, guess what? Yuuri is the one who lets him come into his room, sleep, and stay with him. There IS a lock in the door. (novel 4)Is it because Wolfram pretty much jumped Yuuri to have sex with him in the second novel? Well, guess what? Yuuri didn’t say no. He panicked a bit and jumped into the ofuro saying “You don’t want to do it with a smelly guy, right?” He was buying himself time, not knowing he was returning to earth, and his mouth intuitively said yes to Wolf. “Yes, lemme take a bath”For those of you who don’t know this: Japanese people ALWAYS take a bath before sex. Yuuri didn’t run back outside to the corridor to get help (pretty sure there are soldiers guarding him around the clock), he went to the ofuro TO TAKE A BATH! He even said the words” You don’t want to do it with a smelly guy”.

So what’s up with that?

Didn’t Yuuri go above and beyond confessing? Don’t Yuuri’s words and actions count, too? Didn’t he choose Wolf to go with him on an “adventure”, knowing it would just be the two of them in Seisa arc? Didn’t he call Wolfram cute? Didn’t he almost loose himself when he thought Wolf was dead? Doesn’t he constantly think about Wolfram’s beauty and braveness, and is terrified of that time when Wolf almost died? Didn’t he tell Wolfram he’s happy to have him in the bed scene? Didn’t he get in bed with Wolfram to get comforted by him, telling him he couldn’t pretend anymore? Didn’t Yuuri ask Wolfram if his punch meant ‘divorce’? Doesn’t he talk about Wolfram and himself as having “domestic violence” issues? Didn’t he COMPLAIN that Wolfram isn’t sleeping with him since Seisa? Doesn’t he refer to Wolfram as Greta’s father!? Doesn’t he say that Wolfram is the only one who can understand him when it comes to parenting Greta? Didn’t he tell Wolfram in misepan 2 that he would give him anything Wolfram wanted? Wolfram didn’t say that… Yuuri said that! Didn’t he sit down to write wonderful things about Wolf in ‘Love Letter’? The doujinshi is called Love Letter! And how about Crossheart? The story where he asks Wolfram if he would cry if Yuuri wasn’t there anymore? Yuuri plainly said he WOULD cry, and Wolfram said he wouldn’t because he didn’t want Yuuri to be sad…. Not to mention that before Wolfram explained himself, Yuuri immediately felt hurt because he thought a fiance should cry.

Conversely: Has he ever done any of these things, thought any of these things towards anyone else? Is anyone else Greta’s father? Did he tell anyone else he would give them anything they want? Did he ask anyone else if they wanted a divorce!? 

In my opinion, anyone refusing to accept that Yuuri has confessed to Wolfram, has professed his love with words and actions has simply not read the novels; or is negating half the canon to fit some other ship.

The MaruMa novels are the best thing that happened to me! We need more of it! I wanna read about the Royal Wedding aready! Waiting for Takabayashi-sensei to continue writing cause the last cliffhanger is killing me!

@blvebite Well if there’s a possibility of reboot, I’d like one following the novels. The manga’s ending was rushed by Kadokawa, and it’s completely different from the novels starting from Chapter 96 (it was a bit different before, but after 96 it’s a different plot .. ). I’m sorry, I love the novels. I know manga is easier to read and it has all the beautiful art, but the novels ! that source material is simply irreplaceable for me. I just like everything about it.  If you ever get a chance to watch the KKM musicals they’re pretty good, too. And the last one was actually written by Takabayashi sensei (the author of this series).

Three NASA Telescopes Look at an Angry Young Star Together

Science is a shared endeavor. We learn more when we work together. Today, July 18, we’re using three different space telescopes to observe the same star/planet system!

As our Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) enters its third year of observations, it’s taking a new look at a familiar system this month. And today it won’t be alone. Astronomers are looking at AU Microscopii, a young fiery nearby star – about 22 million years old – with the TESS, NICER and Swift observatories.

TESS will be looking for more transits – the passage of a planet across a star – of a recently-discovered exoplanet lurking in the dust of AU Microscopii (called AU Mic for short). Astronomers think there may be other worlds in this active system, as well!

Our Neutron star Interior Composition Explorer (NICER) telescope on the International Space Station will also focus on AU Mic today. While NICER is designed to study neutron stars, the collapsed remains of massive stars that exploded as supernovae, it can study other X-ray sources, too. Scientists hope to observe stellar flares by looking at the star with its high-precision X-ray instrument.

Scientists aren’t sure where the X-rays are coming from on AU Mic — it could be from a stellar corona or magnetic hot spots. If it’s from hot spots, NICER might not see the planet transit, unless it happens to pass over one of those spots, then it could see a big dip!

A different team of astronomers will use our Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory to peer at AU Mic in X-ray and UV to monitor for high-energy flares while TESS simultaneously observes the transiting planet in the visible spectrum. Stellar flares like those of AU Mic can bathe planets in radiation.

Studying high-energy flares from AU Mic with Swift will help us understand the flare-rate over time, which will help with models of the planet’s atmosphere and the system’s space weather. There’s even a (very) small chance for Swift to see a hint of the planet’s transit!

The flares that a star produces can have a direct impact on orbiting planets’ atmospheres. The high-energy photons and particles associated with flares can alter the chemical makeup of a planet’s atmosphere and erode it away over time.

Another time TESS teamed up with a different spacecraft, it discovered a hidden exoplanet, a planet beyond our solar system called AU Mic b, with the now-retired Spitzer Space Telescope. That notable discovery inspired our latest poster! It’s free to download in English and Spanish.

Spitzer’s infrared instrument was ideal for peering at dusty systems! Astronomers are still using data from Spitzer to make discoveries. In fact, the James Webb Space Telescope will carry on similar study and observe AU Mic after it launches next year.
