Imagine being a mother trying to raise your two boys in the aftermath of a war with Cthulhu that nearly destroyed your entire world and- you’re just trying to raise them to be respectable young citizens despite the bad circumstances. Your older son, okay, he’s a little too into knives and swords and fighting things, but that’s just a phase right? And the younger boy is intensely curious about the natural world and good for him for learning to read so young, and then he comes to you and summons a flame on his fingers and- okay, great, natural affinity for magic yeah? You can still work with this.

And then the older boy grows up to make a career out of being a ninja and promptly gets himself killed, and then the younger one is a ranger, and you think great! A good hobby. But then he turns out to be the human incarnate of the fucking guardian of the underworld. And you are so, so tired

I have so many thoughts about the lunatic cultist...Purity-Town specific things below:

Pre-cult and golden-blue robes, them wielding just a simple silver staff with a sharpened point on the tip, scratching out their spell circles by hand in the dirt, triple-checking they’ve written every rune correct. Carrying a pouch of chalk when they need to draw out a circle on stone.

Then, by hardmode, with the ancient spirits released, with magic once again flourishing in a way it hadn’t in 500 years, them being able to simply spin their staff or wave their hands to create it.

(Stardust dragon staff is there just because I wanted to draw it and it was fairly fitting since they’re a summoner/mage and the phantasm dragon has some strong similarities to the stardust dragon, plus the colors fit, but in the actual story they’d probably have another custom staff of their own.)

I imagine them as a sort of warlock, someone who even in pre-hardmode was able to study and manipulate magic in a way unparalleled since the spirits were locked away 500 years ago, learning and pulling together near-forgotten practices from all sorts of sources to come away with an incredible mastery over it all. Creating dolls and binding them to souls, granting themselves functional immortality, mastering magic (and stealing dark secrets from an eldritch god-level being at the expense of their own sanity), and reviving ancient practices.

(Just thinking of the visual similarities between the ancient manipulator and the demon altars...)

Met the big boss himself last night

look i get that sometimes characters dying is like good for the story or whatever but consider. i want them all to be alive and have family dinners together. check and mate

i stroll into the little saltwater store in the city. a border collie comes barreling over and begins nibbling my toes through my open heels. the dude behind the counter introduces himself and asks me if i have any tanks at home or if he needs to set one up for me. i tell him that i have 16 tanks and ask him if he has any personal ones before he can comment on that number. he proceeds to say “yeah, i have a 120 in my office. it has a clam in it.” i cautiously respond “oh, a clam?” and he whips out his phone which already has a livestream up on it. it’s centered on the biggest clam i’ve ever seen, just chillin’ in this tank and taking up half of the available floorspace in a 120 gallon. “that’s my baby,” he says, and points at the unholy bivalve in case i didn’t notice it on my own. there are now two border collies snorfling at my toes while i stare in awe at this dude’s gigantic fucking clam

Had a rough day and decided to chill out and draw Chris (the hero) and Andrew (Guide) discussing the cold in honor of all the snow we’ve gotten recently. I didn’t get to go out much today, but while getting dinner I saw that campus was covered in snowmen and, to a lesser extent, igloos.

Anywho, Chris continues to hate the cold. He’s wearing both his own cloak and Guide’s jacket from this post, pre Chris-redesign. Andrew doesn’t really care about the weather -- it’s all a part of nature. Chris does not agree.

I don’t see it brought up very often, but in-game NPCs each have emojis that they favor and will use in certain situations. Guide and the Arms Dealer specifically use fighting emojis with each other, even if they don’t mind being neighbors. (The Arms Dealer outright admitting that he knows about the voodoo doll and would like to shoot it supports this, but it’s fun to talk about the emojis.)

Anywho. Guide’s aura makes him an immediate target of suspicion. The Arms Dealer isn’t 100% sure what’s up, but he doesn’t like it.
