I’m genuinely considering writing a AU fic where Valka isn’t taken away to see if it would be a fun story/character study. It would be a one shot and from Valka’s perspective. Im either thinking of a narrative type or a ‘the many ways things could have gone down.’
I just got the idea of a time loop situation or a what if type fic of like ‘5 ways in which Valka’s decisions changed httyd’ or something.
Let me know if that’s something anyone wants or if anyone is interested in.
I’d post the whole thing here and on ao3 (I’d give the link)
Hiccup is the type of person to never assume someone likes him back unless they tell him to his face… maybe multiple times, just to be safe.
Snotlout is the type of person to be so intensely delusional he confuses pure hatred for fondness.
This screws both of them over horribly.
So apparently not everyone had noticed this, but…
Hiccup is left-handed (this is the part pretty much everyone knows), BUT he actually tries to use his right hand sometimes when trying to “fit in” with the others, when he’s trying to act in a “traditional” way (and usually failing).
The most prominent instance of this, I think, is the part where he finds Toothless tangled in the bola-ropes in the forests, and plans to kill him. During the “I’m going to cut out your heart…”/“I’m a VIKING!” speech, he’s holding the knife right'handedly.
But then he can’t do it, because he’s not like everyone else, so instead he cuts the ropes to let Toothless free… And he uses his left hand to cut those ropes.
He’s also seen holding weapons (or, well, trying to) right-handedly in dragon training.
But yeah he’s clearly left-handed; he writes and draws with the left hand, he uses his left to do metalwork and so on and so forth.
He’s fundamentally different from everyone else, and while the filmmakers never brought up Hiccup’s handedness the way the books did, they did something a bit more subtle with it. When Hiccup is doing something different, something he’s good at, he’s using his left hand, and that’s when he succeeds at stuff. He released Toothless from those ropes left-handedly. He made that artificial tailfin for Toothless left-handedly. He does things others don’t do, and that way, he makes new discoveries others never did before.
It’s when he tries to be just like everyone else when things don’t work out for him. And the filmmakers subtly made him use his right hand during many of those moments. It’s what everyone else is doing, and they seem to succeed at it without too much trouble, but Hiccup isn’t just like them, so when he tries, he fails.
And when we consider the whole left tailfin/leg thing between Hiccup and Toothless and how that becomes a fundamental part of their relationship…symbiosis…thing, it might sort of connect the symbolism to that as well (but I’ll have to think more about that before I could possibly make a sensible post out of it.)
He looks so stupid I want to punt him
Sorry to those who followed me for my HTTYD content, I’m going to talk about the famous FMA x HP fanfic real quick. Bear with me for a sec.
So in “He’s a Killer Queen, Sunflower, Guillotine”-
-there is a lot of discussion on why and how Ed sympathizes with the slytherins in the first place. I mean, his friends trust him and eventually get why Ed wants to interact with the slytherins. And we all know this (if you have read the fic) but I noticed something kinda like a parallel in the story between Ed in Amestris and the Slytherins.
In Ed’s world. He technically fills the role of the Slytherins. Slytherins are people who do magic but are ostracized because of their families and are known to kinda be almost like dogs for Voldemort.
State alchemists are those who can do alchemy but are ostracized because they are dogs of the military and don’t follow the universal rule of “be thou for the people.”
Now while both are ostracized for very reasonable reasons (such as helping continue a genocide) but it does make Ed’s sympathy for the Slytherins make sense. Ed knows of the horrors the state alchemists have committed, he works for Roy after all! But Ed also knows that most of them were in a dire situation and were forced, and while that doesn’t excuse the killing, etc…it does make it easier to see from the state alchemists point of view. Ed applies this logic to the Slytherins. Edward is aware of the horrors committed by the parents and families of the Slytherins but he knows most of the kids are innocent. Edward knows and can empathize because Ed is treated the same way they are back home. We see time and time again as Ed is thrown out for being military, targeted, kidnapped, and almost died because he is a state alchemist.
Ed may be a Hufflepuff in the HP world but he’s in the Slytherins position in his own. And if he can change the perception of state alchemists in his own world too, then Ed can change how the HP world views Slytherins as well.
Just um…food for thought, I’ll stop now.
There's also just years and years of slow burn but that didn't fit
“you gave him his freedom hiccup. what were you expecting?” uhm, for him to come back?? like he did when hiccup originally gave toothless the fin that let him fly on his own?? obviously he didnt think that his BEST FRIEND would abandon him for a girl??
*gently drapes a blanket over them* my shaylas...
The finished version!
I’ve been reading the fic Defiance for a while and Adora’s new look in it gave me inspiration to draw. I LOVE winged people. So much. 400k words in and I don’t remember if they mention lighting scars but I gave it to her anyway.
Also they didn’t mention what type of bird wings she has so I gave Adora Elliptical wings! They are used for short fast bursts of flight and are good for quick maneuvers :)
They/themLikes consuming media, art, writing, analysis, and my Ocs.I eat children for breakfast :3
