This is so painfully accurate.

First day working in a bookstore, I had a gentleman come to the desk:

"Do you have any books on kidnapping?" My colleague and I both freeze. "Because my wife is really into it."

I look at him and without thinking go, "I hope you don't mean a how-to guide!"

He laughs and says, "No no! Like, books about kidnapping."

Visible relief on mine and my colleague's faces. After a while, he starts talking about his wife watching a show on Netflix - something to do with a serial killer who kidnaps people and traps them.

"In a bookstore basement? Oh yeah, I know just the series! Follow me, sir!"

He bought the entire You series by Caroline Kepnes. And some true crime stuff.

It's been 3 months and I'm still genuinely nervous that this man is alive.

A bookseller stands behind a desk labeled ‘Assistance’ at which a queue has formed. The people in the queue are labelled (front to back) 1. Knows the title of the book but not the author 2. Knows the author but not the title 3. Has some vague memories of the plot 4. Recalls the picture on the cover 5. Can name some of the actors from the movie adaptation 6. Thinks this is the coffee queue 7. Mind has gone completely blank but hoping something will come back before getting to the desk

hi hello friends! does anyone around these parts have some solid knowledge of tarot and a willingness to let me pick your brain? i have a character who has a very specific plot point involving tarot and i know next to nothing, possibly less than nothing, and would love to figure out how to sound like that's not the case.

Yes! Romione and Dramione, mostly because of the bickering. This is why Harmione gives me the ick.

If your reason for not shipping Ron and Hermione is because of all their bickering... you have a child's grasp of their characters.

Ron has five brothers and a little sister. You have to be quick witted to keep up with the amount of friendly fire going on inside that house. The loudest gets heard. He's always ready for a fight.

Hermione secretly judges people by their ability to keep up with her intellectually. Condescension is a reflex. It pushes people away before they can actually match her (because god forbid she lose).

Unstoppable force meets immovable object. Ron can't stop once he gets started and Hermione is too stubborn to admit she's wrong. And, the thing is, they both clearly love it.

Hermione wouldn't want a "yes" man and Ron wouldn't want someone who can't handle teasing. He challenges her intellect, and she gets an intellectual challenge. It's a win win.
