Request: Hello Sweetie đ I try and request also something. One with Steve where you constantly fight but secretly you have a crush on each other. One time Steve finds you sitting at the Roof of the Stark-Tower, crying. He immediately joins you and hugs you, holding you close while you tell him how useless you feel and that you disappoint all the People around you. He then tells you how much you mean to everyone, especially to him and you finally confess your feelings? :) Thx âAnonymous
A/N: Iâm sorry it took me so long to write your request doll, I absolutely love it! â„
You ran your fingers above the hard disk drives; numbers, pictures and words running to your mind as a tornado of colors and shapes, filling it with the most protected secrets of Hydra. Anything they had ever created, anything they had ever planned or researched âeverything now saved on your mind, locked in the safe boxes of your brain.
A strict call for your name caused you to flinch and the flood of information to crackle as you shook your head, trying to push the voice out of it.
âAbort the mission,â Steveâs strict voice called out on the line of your earbud over the voice of fighting at the background. âAll Avengers step back, now.â
âNot now, Steve,â you mumbled, trying desperately to get your focus back to the hard drives to get all the cognizance in time. âIâm almost done.â
âI donât care, step back Y/N,â he raised his voice â yet you didnât budge. You had everything under your control and could have teleported yourself out of the base of Hydra in nanoseconds or whenever the situation would have demanded you to.
âNo,â you shook your head, âAll I need is twenty seconds.â
âYou are not getting that, get out of the building Y/N,â Steve snapped, his voice deep and harsh, making shivers run through your spine. Shooking your head again, you gritted your teeth as you tried desperately to make the information to flow faster.
âY/N-â
âReady,â you sighed from relief as you got the last codes from the hard drives. In a blink of an eye, you teleported yourself back to the Quinjet, breaking into a breathy laugh when you appeared. âOoh, that was close.â
âShit, doll, you donât give a damn about the orders.â Bucky shook his head, yet couldnât hide the amused grin on his dusty and bruised face.
âYeah, well when the commands are stupid-ass commands, I refuse to obey them,â you rolled your eyes with a sarcastic laugh as you tried to calm down your breathing as well as stop your heart bouncing out of your chest.
âAre you out of your mind?â Steve called out, his voice cold and angry as he rushed towards you, his blue eyes full of disappointment. âI told you to abort the mission-â
âIf I had stepped back at that point Steveâ,â you took a deep breath, trying your best to stay calm, âthe whole mission would have been for nothing. I got-â
âI donât care Y/N, if I give you a command, itâs your job to obey,â he snapped. âIt doesnât matter-â
âThere was no point in that order, and you know that,â you raised your voice, stepping closer to him. âI had everything under my control so why on earth-â
âY/N,â Steve shook his head and clenched his jaw. âYou are no longer working as an Avenger.â

Bucky Barnes x Reader (they have like mid-back length hair but itâs gender neutral)
You were in one of the many bathrooms of Avengers Tower, staring at your reflection in the mirror. You frowned, throwing a long, wet lock of your hair over your shoulder. You bent over, pulling all your hair to the crown of your head, attempting to make a ponytail. You frowned again. Next, you twisted your hair around itself, trying for a bun. Still, this did not satisfy you. Braids? NoâŠPonytails? NoâŠFishtail? NoâŠCurly, straight, wavy, it just wasnât settling with you. You could find no satisfaction in the long tresses of hair falling past your chest.
Eventually, you gave up, and, gathering your things, you left the restroom. You had been in the showers connected to the training room, having just come from a workout. You were now in sweats and a light, loose fitting pajama shirt, figuring that you would just take the rest of the day easy. However, now, as you made your way to the floor that was home to your bedroom, you pondered doing something else.
Throwing your gym bag onto the floor as you entered your room, you enter the bathroom within your bedroom. It was identical to all of the other bathrooms that were connected to the other bedrooms in the Avengers Tower. when you walked in, the shower was to the left. The sink and toilet were to the right, and a small table composed of drawers was straight ahead.
You strode over to the table, digging around for a handheld mirror and a pair of scissors. After you found what you were looking for, you walked over to the sink, once again staring at your reflection. You spun around so your back was to the mirror on the wall. You help the other mirror in front of you so that you got a nice view of your back through the reflections of the mirrors working together. Your hair fell down to your mid back.
After some more experimentation, you realized that it was a feudal attempt, trying to reach around yourself to try to snip off the hair in the dead center of the back of your head. Plus, even if you could reach it properly, there was no way the ends would even resemble a straight line.
Sighing, you placed your tools on the sides of the sink and left your room, searching for help. Fortunately, while turning a corner, you literally ran into Bucky Barnes.
âBucky!â You gasped, jumping backwards, âLord, you scared me!â
âSorry, darling,â Bucky said, rubbing his hands together, âMy bad.â He let out a light laugh.
âNo, itâs fine,â You said, grabbing his hand, âI need your help.â
Your fingers entwined with his as you led him to your room. You guys had been going out for almost a year now, and it was the happiest either of you had been in a while. Bucky especially.
When you got into the bathroom, you handed Bucky the scissors.
âOâŠkay?â Bucky asked.
âI want it off, Buck,â you said, pulling your hair to rest in front of your shoulders, âAll of it, now.â
âAll of it?â Bucky seemed incredulous, âDonât you, like, wanna go an inch at a time or something?â
âNope,â you stated, shaking your head, âI want it up to here,â you gestured to the top of your shoulder, âWe can match.â
Bucky still looked very unsure about this whole thing. He looked at you, slightly concerned, as if you might have lost your mind but he wasnât quite sure if he should be extremely worried or not yet.
âYouâre sure you wanna do this, (Y/N)?â Bucky asked, âBecause what if you do it and then you wish you hadnât?â
You sighed and plopped down onto the edge of the bathtub.
âBucky, I swear, I want to do it. Would you please just help me?â You asked, you were growing a little frustrated by his unsureness.
Bucky sat down next to you on your left and placed his hand over yours which had been gripping the side of the tub. He looked you straight in the eyes and gave you a little smile.
âIâm sorry, doll, I just donât want to mess up.â Bucky told you, his hand still on yours, âMaybe you could cut a little in the front just so I can see where you want it at.â
Bucky was much more comfortable after you had shown him. He had held the mirror for you so that you could cut the first peice. You handed him back the scissors and straddled the tub, one foot inside it and one foot on the cool tiles outside of it. Bucky sat the same way behind you. The cold fingers of his metal hand brushed over the skin of your neck when he went to move some hair over your shoulder. Your flesh erupted in goose bumps at the sudden unexpected change in temperature. Bucky pressed a warm kiss to the same spot and let out a soft âsorryâ against your skin.
You were pretty nervous now that Bucky had started, but it calmed you down that it was him doing this and no one else. You closed your eyes and concentrated on the soft sniiiip as the scissors cut through your hair, the soft ends tickling your skin as they fell onto the floor or into the bathtub. It went on for quite some time. You guessed that Bucky was trying to take his time, making sure he got the edges perfect the first time around.
âYou doing okay?â Bucky asked a few times. You would just hum back a reply, keeping your eyes closed, trying to keep still, and trying not to think so much about how much lighter your head was starting to feel.
Finally, after seemingly a few hours, but what turned out to actually be only half of one, you were done.
âOkay,â Bucky said as he flicked a few last hairs off of your clothes, âYouâre done.â
You went to grab the smaller mirror but Bucky snatched it away, âWait, wait, wait, this calls for the big mirror.â Bucky smiled as he clamped his hands over your eyes.
He guided you out of the bathroom and into your bedroom. Even though it was all dark, you could navigate the room pretty well, having lived there for almost your whole life. However, there were a few toes that were bumped and arms that were bruised, but that was alright because you loved hearing Bucky laugh and he thought the same about you.
Bucky steered you over to the wall with a full-body mirror on it. He positioned you directly in front of it and then all at ones he snatched his hands away and let a quiet âta da!â
The first thing you did was run your fingers through it. It was so great to only have about a foot of hair. It was crazy, but it was great. Your mouth hung open slightly, but all you could do was touch your hair. This was so wonderful!
âDo you like it?â Bucky asked, hope and nerves seeping into his speech.
You turned to him and your arms flew around his neck, âI love it Bucky! Thank you so much I could not have done this by myself!â
Bucky laughed, wrapping his arms around your back and smiling into your short hair, âThank God, I think I was more nervous than you.â He pressed a small kiss to the side of your head and the two of you got ready to go to dinner, you bouncing with excitement to show the rest of the team.

You didnât expect it, it just sort of happened. Your period was late for a whole month before you knew. Two pregnancy tests just confirmed it. You werenât ready and you werenât experienced but you sure were excited. A whole new world just opened up in front of you. You just needed to tell Bucky about it. You sat there in your room, aloneâŠhow were you going to tell him? You suddenly felt morning sickness kicked in and you felt like you will vomit. You took a deep breath trying to control yourself but it wasnât working. You went to the bathroom trying to calm yourself down and luckily you didnât vomit all over your clothes. You washed your face and looked at yourself in the mirror. You couldnât believe it this was happening. Itâs too early. The tears were now rolling down your cheeks. You havenât realized Bucky had already come to the room.
âHey (Y/N)?â
âYeah?â
âYou okay there doll?â
âNot really.â
âCan I come in?â
âYeah.â
He opened the door and found you crying on the bathroom floor, head down between your knees, in your pajamas.
âWhatâs wrong?â He sat next to you.
âIf I tell you will you stay?â
âWhy wouldnât I?â
âBecause itâs too early.â
âToo early for what, doll?â
âFor a kid.â You said. Buckyâs jaw dropped. âIâm pregnant James.â
âWha-whaâŠ.what?â
âYeah I know.â He immediately wrapped his hands around your small frame pulling you closer to him. You were a little shocked by his reaction.
âI will stay.â He whispered into your ear.
âWhat?â
âI will stay no matter what happens, okay? Itâs early for us and it will be stressful but we can do it.â
âYou really think so? I thought you will freak out and leave me.â
âI love you way too much to leave you (Y/N). Even if I wanted to everyone in the team would probably kick my ass for being a coward. Plus I have always wanted to be a dad.â
âReally?â
âYeah. After Hydra I thought it was over for meâŠâ
âNever say neverâŠclearly.â You smiled.
âI love you doll.â
âI love you too.â
âDoes anyone else know?â He asked.
âJust you.â
âDo you want to tell everyone at dinner?â
âSure. I think only Wanda knows though.â
âHow so?â
âShe tends to sense when something is off.âYou said resting your head on his metal arm. It was surprisingly comfortable and you were happy.

Pairings: Steve Rogers x Reader
âHey Steve are you okay?â You said as you approached Steve who had a blank look on his face.
âNo not really.â
You looked at him with a worried look upon your face. Â âItâs about Bucky isnât it?â
He nodded and frowned. âTheyâre coming after him and me.  I canât let them get to him. Heâs my best friend Y/N.  I just canât watch them take him.â
âI know. I know. I just want you to know that Iâm here for you. Â Iâm on your side.â You smiled.
âThanks but the thing is this is most likely going to end up in a war amongst friends.â He paused and let out a sigh âI donât want it that way and I donât want you getting involved.âÂ
âWhy?â
âWhenever thereâs a war someone ends up getting hurt.â
âSo what youâre saying is that  you donât think Iâm strong enough to handle this?â
âNo, no.â He shook his head as he faced you. âItâs just that I-â He hesitated for a moment.
âYou just what?â You asked a bit too aggressively.
He turned his face away from you and returned to staring out the window. âI donât want to ruin you.  If youâre on my side youâre outside the law.  Your life could be over for you.â
âSteve listen to me.â Â You placed your hand on his face so he could look at you. âIâm willing to fight for what I believe in and Iâm willing follow you into battle. Â Weâre in this together.â
Steve sighed. âIf you die its on me.â
âSo? Itâs my-â
Steve stopped you and removed your hand from his face. â âSo?â What do you mean âso?â You do realize how important you are?â
âSteve my life is a small price to pay if it means you win.â  You didnât understand what Steve was getting worked up about.  He was always going on about fighting for what you believe in.
âYou still donât understand.â Â You could slowly hear Steveâs voice tightening. Â You had to admit you were also getting frustrated.
âSo please tell me what I donât understand.â You said disconcertedly.
âI-I-â
âJust say it already!â You said with a sudden burst of annoyance.
âI love you!â Steve said loudly which sent shivers down your spine. Â It also shocked you a bit to find out that he was in love with you. Â You werenât really sure how to respond but you definitely felt something for him too. You decided to take a step closer so your faces were only inches apart. Â Your eyes met his.
âI love you too and thatâs exactly why Iâm always going to be right next-â
He didnât even give you the chance to finish before he pressed his lips towards yours. The feeling of his warm lips brushing against yours felt so satisfying as if this was the moment you had always been waiting for.
Steve pulled away from the kiss that felt like forever. âIâm sorry.â He said with a cute smile that could make your heart melt.  âI just didnât want to see you get hurt.â
âItâs okay as long as we take care of each other weâll be alright.â

PART 1
_______________________________________
After two years, your husband and father of her four children, was back home, alive. Tears were rolling to your eyes seeing him and the kids again happy. But Peggy, no.
âNo! Donât touch me!â She said pulling him of, of his attempt to hug her. Your smiles dissappeared.
âPeggy, whatâs wrong?â He said, looking at her with his puppy blue eyes. She was trying hard to keep her angry expression.
âYour kidding me? You left us alone for two years! Mom was pregnant to your fourth child and you werenât even here! Were you here when Grant made his first steps? Or when Natalie started speaking properly?â She told him with anger, hot tears streaming down at your faces.
âPeggy, calm down. Itâs ok. He is here now and donât talk like that about your father..â You said but she shot you a look, as deadly as hell.
âNo mom itâs not ok! You know what? Fuck it! Iâm going to sleepâ She said locking the door behind her. Steve took you in his arms while you both cried.
âIâm such a horrible mother.â You whispered to him and he caressed the back your neck.
âNo Y/N, youâre not. She just needs some space. I love you. Every person in this house.â You heard your baby crying. âGo to sleep baby. Iâm going to get Grant to sleep. I want to spend some time with him and you. Youâre tired y/n. I will come back to you in seconds.â He mumbled to your ear as you gave him a kiss on his cheek.
Steve moved to the babyâs room and took him in his arms.â Hey little Grant. Iâm sorry I wasnât there when you were born. I was just trying to keep all of you safe.. Now your sister hates me, but I love her. I love every of you. Youâre my family. â The baby stopped crying and giggled. âYour so cute. I think you got your motherâs personality.â Now Grant started closing his eyes. âGoodnight my little.â He said and left the room. After visiting all the kids rooms for a goodnight, he went to Peggyâs.
âPeggy, can we talk?â He knocked the door but got no response. âPeggy are you there?â He slowly opened the door but found nothing on it. Quickly, he ran to your room, shaking you to wake up. âPeggyâs gone!â
âWhat do you mean?â You asked as he stood there in shock. âI visited her room but she wasnât in there! I searched everywhere.â You got off the bed and ran to her room. The posters of her favorite Tv Show still hanged on the wall but something was off. You found a note in the corner of the wall, near to her almost black photograph.
Agent Y/L/N and Captain Rogers
We have your daughter Peggy Rogers . We wonât hurt her. Not until tommorow. You bring s.h.i.e.l.dâs information till 8:00 PM. If you wonât, your daughter want be the same again.
âNo, no, no!â You screamed as Steve holded you. âWhat are we going to do now?â
âIâll call Tony..â He said, sweat mixed with tears and his shaking voice echoed through the room. âWe have a problem.. Peggy is kidnapped and someone left us a note⊠Yeah.. Ok.. Weâre coming.â
âWait how about James, Natalie and Grant?â You asked Steve and he walked towards you, cupping your cheeks. âLaura agreed to take care of them.â You relieved a bit when he told you.
You opened the door to Clint and prepared your kids. âDonât worry Y/N. Weâll find her.â He said before grabbing James and Natalieâs hands to lead them to the car. Steve followed with Grant still asleep.
âWhat if something goes wrong? If we donât find her?â You said and Steve pecked your lips.
âWe will find her, I promise..â
Avengers Facilities, New York City
âGuys I think I found something..â Tony shouted from the computer labs. With the little strength you had left you ran upstairs and sat next to Steve. âSheâs in a Hydra base.. They sent us a video of her.â He said and clicked on the video.
Peggy was in a chair covered with chains. She was shouting to let her go and was pleading for help. The female agent next to her told her to stop yelling but she didnât listen. She punched her instead, the black piercing on her bottom lip fell to the ground and blood covered her jaw. Steve punched the wall behind him and you cursed under your breath clenching your fists. âHow hours away?â Pietro asked and Natasha looked at the screen, then on the clock.
âThree hours.â Natasha answered. The clock was writing 6 AMâŠ
To be continuedâŠ
Request:Â food-books-and-bed said:Â Can I request a story where the reader was Natashaâs twin and was walking down the street or something and someone needed help and mistook her for Natasha and Steve was watching and he made her join the team she and Steve hookup but he falls for her
Sometimes it was almost a curse to be the twin sister of Natasha Romanoff. Â It was definitely a bad choice to live in the same city, where her enemies knew where to find her and where anyone at any time could ask her to save them. Â You tried to dress conservatively, hoping to cover your identity as much as possible without being totally hidden from the world. Â You still had a life to live, after all.
Tonight was one of those nights that had you wishing that you would have just stayed home. Â You could hear a woman screaming from somewhere nearby, but the sound seemed to come from all around you. Â Moving to the middle of the street, you looked quickly for any cars before closing your eyes and listening; trying to decide which direction to run, trying to drown out the background noises of the city around you.
âMaâam?â
âShh!â you scolded the voice next to you, raising your hand to demand his silence. Â You never even opened your eyes to see who it was, running away from him as your senses sorted out which direction the womanâs scream was coming from. Â You didnât hear him follow you either.
When you reached the alley, you stopped at the sight of a man holding a woman against a building with a knife to her throat as he rummaged through her purse. Â She was doing her best not to panic, and tried to hold her reaction when she saw you in her peripheral vision as to not give you away.
âHey,â you called out, stepping into his line of sight, âI think you should let her go before this gets ugly.â
The man pulled his knife away and released her, now turning to you. Â She grabbed her bag and ran from the alley, leaving him for you. Â âHey, cutie,â he smirked in a gravelly voice that sounded old and worn, âyouâve got a lot of nerve, scaring off my catch there. You taking her place?â
âIâm here to kick your ass.â
The man spun the knife around in his hand and stepped back to lower himself into a lunge, shooting himself forward at you. Â You simply shook your head and sighed, easily grabbing his arm when he attempted to swing the blade at you, firmly twisting and snapping his shoulder from its joint. Â He was now lying at your feet, whimpering and begging for you to stop pushing your foot into his chest. Â You grabbed his knife and slipped it into your boot, leaning down to capture his gaze.
âAt least make it a challenge for me,â you mumbled. Â âIâm sure you have a few questions, but I had plans that you so rudely interrupted.â You pulled out your phone and called for police to come pick him up, looking around to see if anyone had been watching. Â The alley was dark and you didnât see anyone, but you couldnât shake the feeling that someone was there.
Once the sirens grew closer and you could see the lights on the nearby street, you jumped to the nearest fire escape and climbed up until you were out of view, watching the man to be sure he didnât try to run. Â Satisfied with his removal, you jumped to the next building and then the next, lowering yourself to the ground to leave and resume your original plans for the night.
Back at the site of the incident, Steve watched as you disappeared into the darkness. Â He stood motionless for several minutes before a dark figure dropped down next to him from above; another witness to your control of the situation.
âRogers.â
âMurdock.â
âSo, whoâs that one? These vigilante types are just crawling from the woodwork, huh?â
Steve looked at Matt and sighed loudly, disbelieving what was being said. Â âReally? Â You mean like you?â Â
âHey, this isnât about me,â Matt said nervously, raising his hands in defeat and slowly backing away. âOkayâŠsoâŠnice chat, Cap.  I best be on my way.â
Pulling his phone from his pocket, Steve paused for a moment before making the call that could change your life from this day forward. Â He slowly dialed, considering his decision before entering the final number, but finally gave in and put the phone to his ear.
âHey, Nat. Â I have a few questions to run by you. Â You got a minute?â
~~~
âShe doesnât want to be found, Steve. Â I canât say that I blame her.â
âOkay, but why didnât you tell me you that you have a sister?  Youâre in the same city, and yeah itâs a big city, but thereâs always a chance that we would run into her.â  Steve looked up at Natasha across the small cafĂ© table with a small smirk, taking a drink of his coffee, âI thought she was you.â
âSheâs good. Â Not as good as me, of course, but she has no problem holding her own.â
âCan you bring her in?â
Natasha sat her cup down on the table with a loud thud and a shocked look on her face as she all but choked on her drink. Â âTo the team?! Â Are you joking? Â Cap, I just said, she doesnât want to be found. Â I did say that in English, right?â
âYeah, you did,â he chuckled. Â âBut all the same, I think itâs the right thing to do.â Â Steve quickly took the last swallow of his coffee and stood to leave, looking down at his teammate, âyou in or out?â
âIâm out.â
~~~
The overly enthusiastic and loud banging on your door startled you enough to drop your phone before you could send another reply back to your sister, who had tried to give you a little warning that he was trying to find you; you were surprised that the Captain had arrived so quickly. Â You stood to open the door, but had made a firm decision to not let him in.
âWell, I must say you sure didnât waste any time finding me. Â Did she tell you or are you just that resourceful?â
âI prefer to not divulge my methods,â he said, looking down at you with a commanding presence that did anything but put you at ease. Â He was more intimidating than you would have imagined after what you had read about him and what Nat had told you. Â âMay I?â He pushed his way through the door before you could reply, taking full advantage of your stunned silence.
âYou know, thatâs rude to just force your way into someoneâs home. Â In fact, I think thatâs called trespassing, Captain Rogers. Â Not very law abiding for a walking flag.â
Steve looked down at the clothes he was wearing, a pair of jeans and a simple button down shirt, and looked back at you with confusion. Â âIâm not even wearing the suit-â
âCanât escape it, sorry,â you sighed, shutting the door once you decided that he wasnât about to leave any time soon. Â âYou just ooze patriotism.â Â You took a deep breath and turned to look at him, doing your best to hold your resolve and not take him up on the offer that you knew was coming. Â Doing your best to not fall prey to the man that Nat had warned you about only moments ago. Â The man that she knew was much too close to your type, and that you would find hard to say no to. Â âNo thanks, Captain. Â I know what you are here to offer, and I donât want you to waste your time or energy.â
âShe told you.â
âSheâs my sister. Â You think she wouldnât?â
Steve took a few steps closer with a slight sense of urgency and fear that he would lose any shot to convince you of his plan before you even gave him a chance. Â âOkay, but hear me out. Â You didnât break a sweat the other night; you didnât even look like you were engaged in it. Â It was too easy. Â You must have skills similar to hers, right?â
âI said no.â
âNatasha told me that you were trained with her, but you stayed behind after she left the Red Room. You stayed on and trained new girls-â
Finished with his lack of respect for your answer, you stepped behind him and twisted his arm back, pushing him into the wall and pressing his face against it. Â He didnât fight back at all, not even pushing back when you held him tighter. Â
âWhat part of ânoâ is Captain America having a hard time with? Â Is it the ânâ or the âoâ? Â Perhaps itâs a lack of manners thatâs the problem? Â Do you make it a habit to just barge into someoneâs home and spout off until you get your way? Â Do you always get your way, Steve? Â Is that it?â
You swore you heard him growl; like some strange animalistic noise coming from his throat. Â You held your ground, waiting for him to turn the tables on you, planting your feet firmly to keep your leverage against him. âHmm? Â Nothing? Â I thought you were more than just a shield, Rogers.â
Those must have been the magic words to spring him into action. Â It a flurry of twisting arms and legs, punches and kicks, fingers weaved into hair and hands around throats, it was a matter of seconds before you were pinned to the ground and he was looking down at you. Â His hands were like vice grips holding your arms to the floor; you couldnât so much as even wiggle your fingers.
âNow that we have that out of the way,â Steve panted, âcan we get back to business?  Youâre skills are impressive, (Y/N).â  The look in his eyes was shifting, and softening slightly, but they were still intense and held your attention with the deepness of the blue in them.  You felt a shift in your interaction, and you could see that he did too.  âAlrightâŠmaybeâŠmaybe it would be best if we got off the floor and talked in a more civilized way.â
He finally stood and held his hand out to you to help you up, no longer making the eye contact he had so firmly held seconds ago. Â âAlright, talk,â you sighed, straightening out your shirt as you stood. Â âYou have ten minutes to convince me of every reason why I should go with you.â
~~~
Steve was a very convincing man. Â It likely had a lot to do with the fact that you now wanted to let him convince you so you could see more of him. Â You had spoken only a handful of words to him, but you listened to him go on and on about how the Avengers were a cohesive team that wanted to protect and make things right. Â He was so passionate about what he believed, that you couldnât help but be convinced, and now here you were, about to meet everyone.
âJust wait here,â he whispered, resting his hand over yours as if it were natural to do so. Â When you looked down at it, he pulled away quickly and cleared his throat in embarrassment. Â âUm, Iâm just gonna see whoâs here before you come in. Â Looking so much like Nat might be a bit of a shock for them.â
After about five minutes he returned to the front door to bring you in, looking slightly disappointed about something. Â âWell, no oneâs here right now, but I can give you a tour if youâd like?â Â His eyes were filled with anticipation that you would agree to stay, so you quickly took his hand for him to lead the way.
âAlright,â he sighed, looking down at your two hands and your fingers intertwined, seeming a bit uncomfortable at the contact. Â âgym first.â
âNo,â you said, pulling back against his arm to stop him and keeping your hand in place as you spoke. âYou said the towerâs empty, right?â
âUhâŠyeahâŠ?â
Being forward wasnât your strong suit, and you were usually uncomfortable showing guys any interest, but this was no normal guy. Â You may never have this opportunity again, so you took the chance, pulling him down for a kiss, wrapping your other hand around his neck. Â He responded quickly, pressing his mouth roughly against yours, his tongue searching desperately and dancing with yours. Â You lost your breath when he lifted you from the floor, and you had to wrap your legs around him to keep your balance. Â
The breath was knocked from your chest slightly as he slammed your back into the wall, still kissing you with ferocity and need. Â He pulled his head back and began to leave hot kisses down your neck, his warmth leaving goosebumps on your skin.
âThis isnât like me,â you panted.  âI swearâŠitâs justâŠthat youâŠâ
âI knowâŠbut I donât want to stop myself.â
You woke the next morning to incessant buzzing from your phone and countless texts from Natasha, undoubtedly worried that she hadnât heard from you since telling her you were going to meet with Steve.
Did you see the tower last night?
Steve said he convinced you to stop by.
Where are you?
Are you still asleep? Â Wake up, already.
Have you heard from Steve?
âGod, sheâs persistent,â you whispered to yourself, rolling onto your back and rubbing the sleep from your eyes. Â âYou get to tell her, not me.â
âSheâs your sister,â Steve said in a sleepy voice, âIâm not getting in the middle of that.â
âIt didnât seem to bother you last night.â Â You sat up and stretched, yawning as your body pulled itâs aching muscles, âalright, then what should I say?â
âTell her that you didnât get a tour of the tower because I was too busy taking advantage of her only sister.â
You tapped away at your phone for a few seconds then tossed it on the table next to you. Â âOkay.â
Steveâs face went immediately pale and his mouth hung open in shock.  âYou didnâtâŠâ
You gave him a mischievous smile and quietly began, âFiveâŠfourâŠthreeâŠtwoâŠoneâŠâ
The furious banging on his door surprised him, jumping at the sound of the angry Russian on the other side. Â âSteven Rogers, you seem to have forgotten how many ways there are for me to kill you!â
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3
~~
You were leaving today, and suddenlyâwith your bags at your feet and the air around you filled with stagnant silenceâa few days seemed so juvenile. So⊠inconsequential in the grand scheme.Â
You would leave, and when you returned everything would be the same. Azriel would still love another and you would still be left with the bleak realization that you had spent the last few centuries denying a love that you knew to be fruitless.Â
Nothing would change if you were to be gone only a few measly days.Â
But if you were to be gone a month? A year, even?Â
Much of your work for Rhysand could be done from afar, especially with the library in Day Court. Helion wouldnât mind; heâd asked you to consider an extended stay in the past. And maybe there could even be something there, something to take your mind off of your true home.Â
The home that wasnât Velaris.Â
You saw him every time you closed your eyes. His rare smiles, his even rarer laughs; you saw the way his watchful eyes skated across every room you entered and reminisced on each twitch of his handsâthe way you could feel it against your fingers when you grabbed for him in the busy streets of Velaris.Â
Azriel was inescapable, even when you battled against your vision and attempted to drift to sleep.Â
He was everywhere, everything.Â
But he wouldnât be in Day Court, and although that wouldn't stop your thoughts, it would be something. It would be distance.Â
With a flick of your wrist, you sent your bags away to Day Court and heaved in an uncomfortably large breath. You knew he would do little to deny you, but you still needed to ask Rhys. He was your High Lord and employer, above all your friend, and you knew it would take a little persuading.Â
Maybe tears. Yes, tears were very moving and equally as conjurable at the moment.
It only took one step before the knock on your door left you still. Your shoes made a dent in the carpet and you could hear him breathing on the other side of the ornately carved wood. You could always tell when it was Azriel.Â
You shifted your weight from one knee to the next, gripping your skirts at the thigh. Azriel knocked again, this time in a faster patternâmore rushed.Â
You bit into your lip. You hadnât planned to see him again, not before you left. You would deal with the repercussions of such an act later on, but not now. Not when you had finally gotten your emotions under control for long enough to have a conversation with Rhys.Â
It made sense to you now why you had repressed this for so long.Â
The sound of your voice was startling. âCome in.âÂ
The door creaked, but the sound was overpowered by Azrielâs boot clicking against shining marble. The shadowsinger entered before his shadows, but the wisps followed close behind, quickly abandoning their master in favor of darting toward you. They twisted up your legs and elbows, rolling into your hair and dancing along your fingertips.Â
Something like fear, love, crushing defeat tugged and tugged at your chest.Â
âAzriel,â you greeted, aiming for a surprised tone and failing. âHave you come to see me off?âÂ
The spymaster didnât smile. âRhys sent me. He said you might have a message for him.âÂ
That cauldron-damned meddler. Of course he somehow knew about your reservations. You doubted he knew exactly what you had to say, but you had been dragging your feet all morning and were currently about an hour late for your own departure.Â
And of course he had sent Azriel of all people.Â
âOh! Well, I suppose I could go andââÂ
âWhy is half of your vanity gone?âÂ
You blinked, startled by the words. If Azriel was anything, he was polite and never one to cut someone off. You went to search Azrielâs expression but found him zeroed in on the table pushed into the corner of your room.Â
âWhat?â It was all you could think to formulate.Â
But Azriel was quick to respond. âAlmost all of your things are gone. Your perfumes and the pots of cream you keep on the side. Youâve only left the items you donât use anymore.âÂ
âHow do you knowââ you cut yourself off this time, ignoring the glaring question that tried to blind you. âAzriel, Iâm going away⊠to Day Court. You know this.â
But Azriel only shook his head, stalking over to the table and yanking the drawer open so harshly it shook the mirror. When he didnât find what he was looking for, he went to your closet, throwing open the door, shoulders rising and falling with more effort.Â
âAzrielââÂ
âYouâve packed too much.â He turned to you, some of his shadows returning to wind around his chest. âYouâve taken most of your clothes.âÂ
âYou know I always overpack,â you laughed, but the laugh sounded fake, painful.Â
You fought the urge to cower under Azrielâs scrutinizing gaze. It was as if he was on fire, as if he was aflame and filled with something that had been pent up for far too long. If someone, anyone, were to look inside of you, they would see the same thing.Â
Which is why you needed to get far, far away from this situation. Away from him.
But the longer you looked back at himâthe longer you tried to slap that easygoing smile on your faceâthe longer he stared back with the same steady intensity.Â
âIs something the matter?â you tried.Â
Azrielâs hand twitched.Â
That feeling crept along the edges of your ribs once again.Â
âIs something the matter?â he parroted, jaw so impossibly tight the words came out pinched.Â
You finally looked away, playing with your fingers. âYes?âÂ
He started laughing. But it wasnât the kind of laugh that made you feel light. It didnât fill you with pride for eliciting such a sound from him, nor did it make you want to laugh in return. It made you feel dark; as Azriel laughed, you wanted to heave the sound back within the depths it flowed from.Â
âThere are several things that are the matter, y/n, but Iâd say the most pressing is that you have been avoiding me for weeks. That every moment Iâve tried to spend with you has been promptly evaded and now youâre leaving and you had no intention of saying goodbye.âÂ
âI was going toââÂ
âPlease,â he pleaded, eyes soft yet so achingly desperate. âDonât lie to me. Not right now.âÂ
The indent in the carpet was becoming permanent; you couldnât seem to move.Â
âIâve been⊠Iâve been going through a hard time. Leaving seemed like it was the best for me. Just for a little while. Just until I could sort a few things out.âÂ
âFor how long?â he asked, voice cracking along the precipice of the last word.Â
You paused then, staring hard into his eyes. âA while.â
A shaky breath left the shadowsinger, his chest reflecting the sound. He ran a hand into his hair and tugged at the roots, an action you hadnât seen him do in years. A sickening sort of pity ran through youâa sort of responsibility.Â
Because Azriel was your friend, and he was going through something, too. You had no idea if his mate reciprocated his feelings. You found it hard to believe that anyone wouldnât love Azriel, but the conversation youâd overheard last week gave nothing away.Â
Maybe Azriel hadnât told her yet because she didnât love him. And maybe you were being a bad friend by not being there for him.Â
Tossing your hurt to the side, you took a step forward. Azriel watched the movement, eyes flickering behind you to catch the previous imprint of your feet on the carpet.Â
âIâm sorry,â you began, resolute. âIâm sorry that you felt you couldnât tell me. And that youâve been⊠having a hard time. I know Iâm not leaving at the most opportune time, but you can write to me and I can help you.âÂ
Some of the brokenness on Azrielâs face morphed into confusion. âHelp me?âÂ
âWith your mate.âÂ
And it was as if Azriel had been shot. He physically recoiled, his right foot coming down to catch him as he fixed his imbalance.Â
âI know you wanted to keep it private, but I overheard. Azrielââ You swallowed. Hard. ââItâs so wonderful that youâve found your mate.âÂ
Something was set in motion, and Azriel was shaking his head. His gaze was fixed on you and his eyebrows were pushed together in a painful expression and he just kept shaking his head as your chest caved and it became hard to breathe. Something pulled from within and it felt like your heart was unraveling.Â
Couldnât he see how hard this was? How much it took from you just to acknowledge that he was destined for someone else?Â
The shadowsinger seemed unaware of your inner turmoil, instead taking long steps across the room until he reached you. He leaned down, brought his hands up to your face, and he broke another piece of you as his forehead touched yours.Â
He was whispering something, words so low even your fae ears couldnât catch them, but you knew they were fast. Fast and incoherent and you werenât even able to find their meaning in his expression because his eyes were squeezed so tightly.Â
âPlease, just notice. See it, angel, itâs there.âÂ
Your jaw quivered. He was so close to you. The few words you were able to make out were confusing.Â
âMy oblivious girl. Please.âÂ
âAzrielââÂ
When he opened his eyes, the world fell off its axis. The fear in your chestâthe feeling that had been unraveling you and leaving you weakâalighted. It pulled and pulled but this time it didnât hurt. It no longer left splinters embedded in your ribs or took the breath from your lungs.Â
As you looked up at Azriel, it was only soothing and warm andâ
Mate. Azriel was your mate.Â
You pushed back from him, stumbling and catching on the rug as you went toppling down to the floor. There was no pain from the fall; a numbness overtook your body where the warmth once flowed.Â
âYouâre myâAzriel, youââÂ
There were no endings to the sentences you began. Azriel tried reaching a hand down, but when you wouldnât take it he joined you on the floor. He sat with you between his legs, bringing you forward until your knees curled against his chest. And then he wrapped you in his arms and then his wings, taking calming breaths as yours ran rampant.Â
âI am your mate,â he finished for you, so much more soothing than you had ever heard him speak.
âBut Elain,â you gasped out, finding solace against his chest. You leaned your forehead against him and relished in the heat.Â
âWhat of Elain?â Azriel asked, bringing a hand up against the back of your head.Â
âYou love Elain.âÂ
âI do not love Elain.âÂ
âAnd Mor?âÂ
âI do not love Mor, either.âÂ
You nodded against him. This would take longer for you to come to terms with later, but only simple answers were getting through to you now. And the bondâthe bondâsang as you touched Azriel. The bond didnât care if you were confused or hurt or disbelieving.
Your mind swam as a new influx of emotions filled you, but there was a distinction to them and you knew they werenât your own. At first, it was hard to pick through them all; there were so many that they all blended together. There was an obvious tender love, but also a crippling fear that mingled with a darkness you couldnât place. There was adoration and hopefulness and a sense of peace that lay at the bottom of all else.Â
But you could tell this peace was new. It wasnât as deeply ingrained as the others.Â
Azriel leaned back, craning his neck down to catch your gaze. âDo you feel that?â he asked. When you nodded, he continued. âThose feelings have always belonged to you. All of them. I know there is not a lot of proof of that, and I will spend the rest of my life making up for that, but they have always belonged to you.âÂ
âHave you always felt mine?â you asked, voice sounding unused.Â
âSince Iâve felt the bond,â he nodded.Â
âHow long have youâŠâÂ
Azriel sighed, but it wasnât out of irritation. The bond told you as much. âMonths.âÂ
Tears burned at the back of your eyes. âThen why did you neverââÂ
Azriel shushed you as your voice cracked. He ran both hands behind your head and held you steady as his lips pressed to your forehead.Â
âI didnât want to lose you.âÂ
Throat still closed, words still choked, you replied, âThat is idiotic.âÂ
This time, when Azriel laughed, you felt that pride spark up in your chest. âI know, angel. Gods, do I know that.âÂ
There was a brief pause, a respite to the revelations and emotions in the room. You counted your breaths as you pressed against Azriel, and he ran his hands up and down the length of your spine, chaste kisses pressed to your head as the minutes ticked by.Â
âDonât leave.â Azriel broke the silence. âStay. Please.âÂ
When you didnât answer, he kept talking.Â
âYou donât have to love me. I know that is a lot to ask and there are still so many questions left unanswered. But, y/n, I have loved you for a long, long time. I couldnât bear it if you left. It has been difficult to even function this past week with you avoiding me. If you were to leaveââ
âI only avoided you because I thought it wasnât me,â you interrupted, pulling back once again to meet his gaze. âI thought you didnât love me and I couldnât stand it, so I wanted to leave.â
A grim line set into Azrielâs mouth. The desperation returned to his eyes. âWe have wasted so much time.âÂ
âI wouldnât say wasted. Not when you were here. Not when I was still with you.âÂ
âAngel.â The word came out like a plea, and then his lips were on yours. His hands pressed you closer and his mouth was hot against yours and it was everything youâd spent three centuries ignoring. You loved him, gods did you love him, and in this kiss was every proof that he loved you.Â
You tangled your fingers in his hair, musing the already displaced strands. His wings quivered as you kissed him more, the action sending little pools of light into the bubble he had created. They felt warm against your eyelids, and when you pulled away to see the cause, Azriel moved his attention to your jaw, your cheek, your neck.Â
âYou are my mate,â he affirmed against your skin, low and gravelly. âMine.âÂ
You pulled his head away, leaning your forehead against his own. âAnd you are mine.âÂ
âI love you,â he said.Â
And you couldnât say it back, not yet. Azriel seemed unperturbed by this and accepted your small smile as a reply, reciprocating it tenfold. His smile shone in the pockets of light created by his wings and his eyes no longer looked sad. It made you want to say it back.
When that guilt flooded you and your mouth parted, there was a tug at the bond instead. You gasped at the feeling, blinking up at Azriel with owlish eyes.Â
âIâve wanted to do that for months,â he admitted, smile softening as he ran scarred fingers along your cheeks. âEvery time I felt your doubt or fear. I figured I could startle it out of you.âÂ
You rubbed at your chest. âIt feels warm. AndâŠâ You couldnât find the words.
âIt feels good, angel. This bond was cold and it hurt, but itâit feels good. Like Iâm exactly where Iâm supposed to be.âÂ
A breathy, awestruck laugh escaped you. âYou know, I still have to go to Day for the weekend. Itâs court-appointed.âÂ
Azriel groaned, burying his face in your neck. âThen I will come with you,â he grumbled, words muffled against your skin.Â
âYou cannot. But you can wait for me to return and I will come right back here.â
