it’s been a year or so since they last saw each other. brainy has constructed a virtual reality simulation where he and superman are fighting a bunch of evil robots and he THROWS HIMSELF IN FRONT OF A BEAM MEANT FOR SUPERMAN, SACRIFICING HIS LIFE and is TENDERLY CRADLED IN THE ARMS OF SUPERMAN WHO HOLDS HIS HAND AND CRIES

like, this is what you’re doing in your free time, is playing out elaborate holodeck scenarios where on your deathbed your friend tearfully tells you that (verbatim) “YOU’RE A TRUE HERO”???? Holy Shit My Dude

also, when the simulation is over he takes a moment to look at his hand (where they were holding hands) in a satisfied sort of way before he leaves the room, and when he steps out the rest of the legion make fun of him and are like “did you have a good time in your battle simulation, or did you and superman just go out to the movies this time”
