i usually don’t get much time to crochet bc of school but i am at home sick rn so i’ve actually been able to do some crochet
wishbone, the album. august 15th. “this song” out in a week.
over the past two years, i’ve been secretly writing songs. after shows in the basements of the venues, in the sheets of my hotel beds, in narrow gaps between tours— i’d come back home and write all the things i felt nobody wanted to hear. maybe even the things i didn’t want people to hear.
i didn’t tell my friends. i didn’t tell my label. after all, i didn’t know i was making anything, and i had no plan to release any of it. but over time, i began to feel something i’d never felt before. i started to need the music. i listened in airports, in long cab trips, blaring in the shower. in heartbreak, then in joy. i started to play it for my friends, and they started to need it too. in car ride requests with the windows down, in a split pair of wired headphones on the subway home. it became an egregiously niche soundtrack to our own lives in real time, singing just for us.
it felt like the music was reminding me who i am, at an experimental time in my twenties where “who i am” had no definition at all. my driftwood childhood in texas. my lucid summers in london. my blue striped bed sheets in my college apartment. i played the songs to the very first person i’d ever made music with, @thedanielnigro, and i began to record. i didn’t know why i was recording, i just was. i didn’t know what story i was telling, i was just living in it. slowly i started to see myself in full picture. the slivers of myself i’d always been, but never faced. the songs i’d always been writing, but never singing.
before i knew it i was surrounded by an album.
that album is wishbone.
you can preorder the album now. music produced by the people who make my favorite music: @thedanielnigro , @ethangruska , noah conrad, elvira anderfjärd and @lukakloser . album cover shot by the great @dillonmatthewc who shot my first album. embroidery by my best friend ashley. every song written by me in my bed in my pajamas. there’s so much left to say, but i’ll say it in the music.
-conan
p.s. a wishbone never breaks even.
a little drawing i did 🫶🪽 inspired by some random image on pinterest that caught my attention
not super detailed, just a quick little doodle, but it made me happy 🌷
why is this song so comforting to me rn??!
a necklace i made 🐚🌊🐟
the shell is some random small abalone shell i found in Shark Bay a few years ago, it’s been sitting on my desk ever since and now i finally have a purpose for it 😊
kind of inspired by chloe moriondo’s album ‘oyster’ 🫶🌊
i’m so sorry i don’t have any of the magpies or spinifex pigeons but i have some other quirky australian bird photos i have taken…
one time a kookaburra swooped my friend and stole her food, and another time my friend fed a seagull some chicken. also the black swans sometimes attack people
hiiiii u seem rly cool!! :) birds are awesome, my grandmother always leaves out food for the magpies that come to her garden and now they come to her house every single day. there is also a random crow nest in a tree at her house and it’s so cool bc it’s made out of all sorts of trinkets and wire and stuff they’ve taken from her garden. the coolest birds i’ve ever seen are spinifex pigeons tho.
anyway i hope u have a good day/evening/night!!!!
THATS SO COOL OMGGGGGG
Pls get a photo for me if you can babes that would be sick omgg
Thank you for reaching out!! I just got to work so we're gonna see how it goes
I've been on a hiatus from bird photos in the blog but theyre coming back soon dont worry!
omg moon jellyfish are gorgeoussss 😊 they’re so pretty and magical
Hiya! I just found Ur account cos Ur silly lil shark drawings came up on my dash and omg U seem super cool! If U want to yap, I adore jellyfish so would love to hear anything abt them! Alternatively tho you could yap about literally anything to do with marine bio and I will absolutely read lol. Anyways omg I'm sure this account is gonna be such a slay, from one ocean-obsessed INFP to another🌊💙
hiiiiii!! nice to meet u! 😊 ur account is literally so cool omg 😍🌊
jellyfish are soooo cool!! do u have a favourite type of jelly?? i think i like the atolla jellyfish or helmet jellyfish. there are a lot of jellyfish in the river where i do rowing training, they’re these brown ones, i think they’re called australian spotted jellyfish.
the cute little brown jellies and the sunrise at the rowing shed 😊
atolla jellyfishh (or deep-sea crown jellies i think) look like tiny little UFOs. they’re about 15 cm wide. they have a bioluminescent bulb that they use to disorientate and confuse predators that are threatening them, and allowing them to swim away. also they eat plankton.
there is also a type of jellyfish which is called an immortal jellyfish that can revert back to a polyp when it is physically injured as an adult, and then regrow to be genetically the same as an adult again. they do this through transdifferentiation, a process where cells that are specialised for a specific tissue can turn into a different type of cell that is specialised for another tissue. they are also reallllyyyy small, less than half a centimetre big fully grown.
anywayyy tysm for ur message!! i hope u learned something!!!
also i hope u liked my shark drawings 🙃🦈

it’s so gorgeousss 😍😍 i love siphonophores
Siphonophores are close cousins of jellies. They’re fragile creatures composed of individual, specialized parts connected to each other in a chain. Some parts pulse and steer the colony, others stun and ingest prey. Siphonophores thrive in the midwater where there aren’t any sharp surfaces to damage their delicate bodies. MBARI’s remotely operated vehicles, or ROVs, have revealed a surprising diversity of siphonophores in Monterey Bay, and we’ve learned they’re important predators in the ocean’s depths.
We’ve discovered several remarkable new siphonophore species, including this especially cunning predator—the angler siphonophore (Erenna sirena). In a dazzling display of predatory prowess, it dangles luminescent lures that mimic crimson crustaceans and attract unsuspecting fishes (wait until the end to catch a glimpse of these). Zap! When a curious lanternfish gets too close, the siphonophore’s tentacles deliver a powerful sting and snare a meal.
shark drawings!!! 🦈🌊
drawn with a random blue pen i found at school 🙂
yayyy tysm!!!! 😊 i think ur really really cool too! and thanks for letting me yap to u about bioluminescence, it made my dayy ✨
Yayy new moot! And she's a marine biologist!!
( @ang3l-ocean i think you're immeasurably cool )
Greetings and salutations! You seem very cool/interesting/friendly! (I found your intro post when looking through the marine biology tag (I know nothing about marine biology but find it immensely fascinating)
Tell me about bioluminescence :)
omggg hiiii i literally just made my account today, i didn’t think anyone would actually see it!! u seem rly cool too 😊
i am waaaay too into bioluminescence, mainly marine bioluminescence bc it’s cool 🙃 76% of discovered deep sea creatures use bioluminescence! so basically, the light is produced from a chemical reaction from luciferin and oxygen:
luciferin (C11H8N2O3S2) + oxygen (O) —> light and oxyluciferin (by-product)
and organisms either have an enzyme called luciferase, which catalyzes the reaction, or photoproteins, that allow the reaction to occur. the reaction occurs in the cells of an organism (or cell if it’s only a single-celled organism)
some animals, like firefly squid, have photophores, which are like tiny bioluminescent dots along their body. they are the brightest type of bioluminescence and are sometimes complex enough to be able to detect light levels so the animal can control how bright the light they produce is. they are tiny glands/organs that have the necessary chemicals to produce light.
some animals, like hawaiian bobtail squid, have a symbiotic relationship with bioluminescent bacteria.
like the angler fish has bioluminescent bacteria living in its esca (glowing bulb thing)
and some animals just eat bioluminescent organisms and that makes them glow.
bioluminescence underwater is usually blue bc it travels furthest in water.
some animals use it to lure prey to them, such as dragonfish, who has transparent teeth so it doesn’t reflect light off them and give them away. some animals also use it for defence to confuse predators, like the pandalid shrimp just vomits bioluminescent mucus at predators, and vampire squid will do the same thing but only in a life-or-death situation bc it uses a lot of their energy. it is also used to attract mates in a few species.
bioluminescence is also used for camouflage, so that predators below can’t see the silhouette of prey above it because they match their bioluminescence to the sunlight’s brightness. it’s kinda hard to explain but it’s called counterillumination
the coolest bioluminescent organisms are vampire squid, glass octopuses, pyrosomas, helmet jellyfishes, cockatoo squid, and siphophore colonies
anywayyyy i hope you liked my very very long yap and you learned something!!! and thank you soooo much for following me and sending me a message 😊😊😊😊
here is a little doodle i did on a plane trip to Coral Bay WA ✨🪸
and also a little ramble of facts i remembered about vampire squid 🙃 if i got anything wrong pls correct me
i drew it with one of those multicolour smiggle pens where u press the different colours down for the pen colour
watch me reblog literally anything posted by mbari 😃😃😃
idk what to write in these things but here goes i guess…
