ARGUS, the many-eyed demi-god, is a psychic-type mystical fighter who specializes in paralyzing her opponents with her gaze and holding them in crippling mental pain. Nearly impossible to sneak up on, she maintains a vigilant defense against physical attacks with evasive hovering, as any contact with her eye-covered body can do serious damage. The large eye on her forehead, when opened, casts a heavily destructive wide beam of light, but it forces all of Argus's other eyes closed and leaves her vulnerable for the duration. An orbiting shroud covers the eye until she needs its power. Fighters that want to take on Argus should employ blinding techniques: bright flashes of light, obstructive smoke, or sprays of ink. While impervious to attacks of willpower, physical attacks can bring Argus down easily if fighters manage to blind all of her eyes.
Okay, now come up from that deep dark pool of nerdiness...this is Argus, my submission to Jenn Woodall's latest anthology zine, FIGHT! Round 1! It features many talented illustrators the likes of Kali Ciesemier, Sam Bosma, Jimmy Giegerich, Valentin Seiche + more, and it's gonna be rad as hell.
It's official! I've flip flopped a lot, but Tumblr is now the new home for my illustration blog. Just the fact that I feel more inclined to update this baby tells me that this is probably the way to go. It's good timing because I've been feeling really excited about working lately, getting new things started, keeping a proper sketchbook, and being overall less precious about my art. Not everything needs to be perfect, but it's worth it to just put things down, and draw and draw and draw. And after all perfection is subjective. That's going to be my outlook for this year, and I'm hoping that fun new work will result, so keep checking back!
SPX COMETH!
Check this oouuuuttt...
Here's "Ugs, Fugs and Grossos", 28 pages of ug-ass mugs, fug-ass fugs, and gross-ass grossos; and "Executioner and Friend", dungeons, dragons, and dick jokes, each by Jimmy Giegerich.
"Heroical #1" is an 11" X 14" zine by David Plunkert chock full of weirdo super hero stuff, and playfully off-beat heros.
The very exciting "Fantasy Basketball" by Sam Bosma will be in the mix as well and it's sure to be mind-blowingly good.
Alex Fine is debuting "Il Bruto", a hilarious collection of Charles Bronson pin ups in classic action movie rolls.
"Warlow's Guide to Wizards, Sorceri & Familiars Arcane" by yours truly will be there of course!
Two new comics from Haleigh Buck of Hey Boy Comics will be debuting as well: "Herman the Hot Dog" and "Internet Diarrhea", sure to be goofy-as-hell, wildly inappropriate, and full of schadenfreude.
Last but not least, Kali Ciesemier will be selling some gorgeous prints of her work that are not to be missed!
That's what we got for you guys! Come to tables M5-M8 to get your hands on it all! We'll see you there, pals.
Thank you, Catherine Coulson, for giving us such a beloved character. You will be missed.
Another one for the New Yorker’s Bar Tab column: Sweet Afton, an Irish, pickle-minded pub that sounds like it stepped straight out of my dreams. Read the article online here.
Somehow at some point my blog passed 1,000 followers (1100!). Wow! What are all you people doing here??
Me and my fox friend want to welcome you ♥
The first thing I will tell you is: there's a zine I'm putting out called Damn Fine Coffee! A Twin Peaks Fan Zine.
The second thing is: the owls are not what they seem.
The third thing is: Damn Fine Coffee! debuts this year at SPX.
That's right! You may have been seeing some awesome work floating around for the zine I'm putting together: Damn Fine Coffee! A Twin Peaks Fan Zine. I will be at SPX this year where you can get your hands on it and feast your eyes on Twin Peaks homages by over 30 incredibly talented artists.
Damn Fine Coffee! will be going into production soon, and I'll be posting updates on availability, price, and the possibility of pre-orders (because folks have been asking, which is very exciting) here on my blog. You can also check out my twitter for quick updates too.
Here's the cover and a quick sampling of some of the rad work you'll find in the zine by Ping Zhu, Gant Powell, and Ryan Fortney.
The support and the excitement from everybody has been really encouraging so thanks and stay tuned!
Today is Kali Ciesemier's birthday. I made this ridiculous thing expressly for her. She's wonderful (and one of my best friends, y'all) so wish her a happy birthday!
