This weekend I thought I'd share just a tiny sliver of the books on my wishlist that are all debuting at SPX. All the work that's popping up for this year looks fantastic, and I'm so psyched to be there already.
Magical Beatdown Vol. 1 by Jenn Woodall / Reggie 12 by Brian Ralph / Frontier's second issue featuring work by Hellen Jo / Blobby Boys by Alex Schubert / Picnic Ruined by Roman Muradov / Honey by Celine Loup / Gold Pollen and Other Stories by Seiichi Hayashi / Softcore #1-3 by Box Brown / Snackies #2 by Nick Sumida
Tomorrow I'll share the books my table group mates are debuting! They're ALSO on my wishlist and are soooo good lookin'. Check back then!
New illustration for the New York Times Letters section. This one's about reigning in health care costs by taking away numerous, sometimes needless testing rather than rationing who gets what care. You can read the article here. Art direction by Alexandra Zsigmond.

haha woah! Love this, Brian! (great to meet you btw!) I also love the perpetual joyous laughter that is Jimmy in a nutshell <3
Had a blast at SPX this weekend! Drew some folks I met on the flight home.
We’re snowed-in here in Baltimore, and it’s making me miss warmer weather, green things, flora...
So here is a beer label I designed and illustrated for Union Craft Brewing’s special spring-time saison that they crafted exclusively for Atomic Books in Hampden. A wonderful pairing of comics “for mutated minds” and a light, fruity ale.
I've always wanted to illustrate beer and wine labels and this was a really fun way to dip my toe in. I hope I get the chance to do more!
Sebastian Mesnard kindly invited me to take part in Gallery Nucleus' upcoming show Edward Scissorhands 20th Anniversary Tribute, and above is a little preview of the piece I did for it. I chose to illustrate the scene where Edward is rushed by the suburban housewives and all their ambrosia salads. One of my favorite scenes among tons in this movie, which made it hard to choose! It'd been years since I'd seen Edward Scissorhands so it was great to rewatch it, and I remembered just how lovely this movie is. It stands the test of time pretty well too! It's not as dated as you might expect it to be.
If you want to see my full piece, check out the Scissorhands 20th blog. There are so many great pieces by great artists in the show and it's absolutely worth a look! Thanks again, Seb!
Hey all! My Twin Peaks-themed anthology zine "Damn Fine Coffee!" just launched its funding project on Kickstarter! This is your chance to place pre-orders on the zine and also to snatch up screen prints, original drawings, AND paintings of Twin Peaks characters. If you're excited about the book, I hope you can contribute and help make it happen, or just take a minute to spread the word! Every little bit helps and I'm super thankful for whatever you can do or give. Seriously.
You can read more about the zine and see a few fantastic pieces by some of its fantastic contributors here.
Visit the Kickstarter project and claim a copy of the zine (which has free shipping for a limited time!) right here!
After all, in the words of Agent Cooper himself:
Hey there, jewel eyes. I made new Loot bags for you...
Printed by the fine fellows at Pizza Party. $15, available at SPX.
I want to watch the sun set on Mars with you.
A little warm-up piece inspired by NASA's Mars Exploration Rover, Spirit's photos, which are just incredibly moving, right?
This warm and cozy illo for Wassail, an amazing-sounding Lower East Side cider bar, appeared in the Bar Tab column of the New Yorker’s April 10th issue. You can read the article online here. Thanks to my AD Deanna Donegan!
