My ultimate goal is to draw a character so well or make a character so good that even a person who hates it feels like saying
My dear ,let me hold you till the stars in the night sky burn out.
Hurt. Pure hurt.
“Put a gun against his head, pulled my trigger, now he's dead
Mama, life had just begun
But now I've gone and thrown it all away
Mama, ooh, didn't mean to make you cry
If I'm not back again this time tomorrow
Carry on, carry on as if nothing really matters”
“Too late, my time has come
Sends shivers down my spine, body's aching all the time
Goodbye, everybody, I've got to go
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth
Mama, ooh (any way the wind blows)
I don't wanna die
I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all”
count your days ken wakui, i’m still not over the fact that izana listens to bohemian rhapsody.

This is a weird question but in school I need to read 5 short stories and write small review entries about said stories. I was wondering how many short stories do you know? Sorry if this is worded weirdly, I didn't know how to type out my thoughts. Thank you and hopefully you understand what I mean.
^Sakaguchi Ango writing^ (This picture is probably how we all feel writing assignments for school that require multiple references)
I know a lot of short stories by the Japanese BSD authors. I’ll include a list of some of my favorites and some links (because a lot of the books are expensive and out of print):
“The Moon Over the Mountain” by Nakajima Atsushi: link
“Run, Melos!” by Dazai Osamu: link
“Meat and Potatoes” by Kunikida Doppo: link
“The Self-Made Man” by Kunikida Doppo: link
“The Human Chair” by Edogawa Ranpo: link (starts on PDF page 14)
“The Psychological Test” by Edogawa Ranpo: link (starts on PDF page 37)
“Night on the Galactic Railroad” by Miyazawa Kenji: link
“Rashoumon” by Akutagawa Ryuunosuke: link (download the PDF)
“The Dancing Girl” by Mori Ogai: link
“Lemon” by Kajii Motojiro: link
“The State of the Times” by Oda Sakunosuke: link
“In the Forest, Under Cherries in Full Bloom” by Sakaguchi Ango: link
These are just some of my favorites that are also great examples of Japanese short stories. All the links come from the BSD Recommended Reading List, and there are a lot more short stories in this list, so feel free to browse and see if there are any that you would like to use. Â
If you want to have more Western authors then you can use the following sites for Western BSD authors:
Edgar Allen Poe
H.P. Lovecraft
Franz Kafka
And this website has links to short stories by a variety of authors like Anton Chekhov, Mark Twain, Herman Melville, and Ray Bradbury: bookbub.com
I hope that this can be helpful with your assignment! If you’re like me and you want to read shorter stories that have a lot of meaning in them then I would start with “The Moon Over the Mountain,” “Rashoumon,” “Lemon,” and “Run, Melos!” Those stories are also studied in Japanese schools, if that helps you know what stories to choose. But if you don’t care what length then any of them will do. It would be fun to write about “The Human Chair” because it’s more of a mystery/horror story, or “The Psychological Test.” But really just find five short stories that resonate with you and go with it!Â
Good luck, and I’m happy to help if you have any more questions!
