I feel like a lot of people misunderstand the relationship between Verlaine and Chuuya. There's a lot of argument over whether they're biologically brothers or not. That's not the point. The point is how they came into the world and their unnatural birth. Or, at least, how Verlaine perceives it. He sees both him and Chuuya as artificial beings that will never be human no matter how hard they may try, so they may as well stop trying to fit in with these disgusting humans and just find solace in each other. He calls Chuuya his brother because he feels like he's the only one who can truly understand what he's going through. Their "brothership" stems from their shared existence as artificial beings. This is why Chuuya rejects it so violently at first. He doesn't want to be anything like the man who slaughtered his friends. He wants to be human.
Then, throughout the book, Chuuya comes to accept that however he came into this world, naturally or otherwise, he chooses to be human, and that's what it's important. His actions are what make him human. Verlaine learns this, too, but it's already far too late. He, too, had the chance to be human, but he was too focused on the possibility of being inhuman instead of actually trying to be a good person or to accept the care and support of his friend, Rimbaud, and now, he's gone. That is the tragedy of his story. He always had the opportunity to be human, but he threw it away for the sake of anger and hatred.
Only when they have both learned this lesson that Chuuya accepts Verlaine as his brother. Not because they're biologically related or anything, but because they do have this shared experience with one another, and he's here for him. Not because he forgives him for what he did. But because he has an opportunity to be better.
I love stormbringer. It's so good. Anyone reading this who hasn't read it, READ IT!! IF YOU LIKE CHUUYA AT ALL, YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK! IT'S SO IMPORTANT TO HIS CHARACTER!
This poll is a celebration of fandom and fandom history; we're aware that there are certain issues with many of the listed pairings and sources, but they are a part of that history. Please do not take this as an endorsement, and refrain from harassment.
Recent re-observations of SB Chuuya's design have spawned the idea of Chuuya being farsighted and his glasses in Storm Bringer actually being prescriptions glasses so he can read all his documents. Have the scenario that @whathorselegs came up with from this what-if sdjfhskdjfh
chuuya is not used to seeing a sleeping dazai. Sure he's definitely the person who has seen him like this the most, has helped him as much as he could with his insomnia, has driven him around until he was sleepy, has gotten him his sleeping pills (and kept them far from him only to be accessed through chuuya, thank you very much). However dazai is still an insomniac, so waking up before him and finding him cuddled up on chuuya's chest and sleeping peacefully is rare. This are his favorite mornings, without a speck of a doubt. Not only does this mean that the mackerel is actually resting, it also means that chuuya can stare at his pretty face as much as he wants. And when after a while dazai stirs awake, with his eyes barely open, his hair a mess and his face puffy and sleep warm, chuuya gets cuteness aggression so hard he needs to cover him in kisses and squeeze him real tight
It adds ✨️Character✨️
you know what your protagonist wants, but what do they need? a break. they need a break
used a lot of bases on pinterest for references and some cosplays of skk for references?
I rate the silly 10/10 in cuteness points
Sadly I have no good pictures of my dogs as puppies as 1 was already past the tiny puppy stage when we got her and the other one has a mostly black coat beside her paw tips so she just looks like a small lump of void lmao
Imagine, a reader who despite preferring cats, gets Chuuya a puppy for his birthday
I just want to see Chuuya happy, he's been through too much
Guess who left it in the drafts and completely forgot about it...
Also the reader reminds me of dazai bc dosen't he prefer cats too??
Chuuya stared at the small, squirming bundle of fur in his arms, mouth slightly agape. The puppy—no larger than a loaf of bread—tilted its head, its floppy ears twitching as if equally perplexed by the turn of events.
"You got me a dog?" Chuuya finally asked, his voice unreadable.
You lounged lazily on the couch, arms draped over the backrest, watching his reaction with amusement. "What, were you expecting a cat?" you mused, voice laced with the familiar tease that always got under his skin.
Chuuya scoffed. "No, but you prefer cats."
"Exactly," you replied, as if that explained everything. And to you, maybe it did.
The little dog—tan with white markings—squirmed in Chuuya’s hold before clambering clumsily onto his chest, its tail wagging excitedly. Chuuya, caught between surprise and something suspiciously close to giddiness, instinctively steadied it with gloved hands. The tiny creature looked up at him with wide, trusting eyes, then let out an eager yap.
Tch. Annoying. But cute.
Chuuya clicked his tongue but didn’t push it away. "You got this for me?"
"Well, obviously," you sighed, stretching your legs out. "You’re a dog person. It was either this or a hat, and let’s be real—you probably have a secret stash of those somewhere."
Chuuya flushed, opening his mouth to retort before shutting it with a scowl. Damn you. You were insufferable. And yet, as the puppy eagerly licked at his gloved fingers, Chuuya felt his lips twitch upward despite himself.
"...Thanks," he muttered, barely above a whisper.
You grinned, pleased with yourself. "Oh, don’t mention it. Consider it my act of charity for the year."
Chuuya threw a pillow at your face.
The puppy barked happily.
Also take a look at this silly (my dog)
please just take a moment with me to appreciate how "s'envoyer en l'air" has so much comedic potential as an expression considering Chuuya's ability and how much mileage two teenagers who love antagonizing each other could get out of it
