This is so mysterious and spooky and I love it. I do kind of wish we got to see a little bit more of Ed’s interactions with the Court of Owls after he finally got to meet them, i.e., got captured by them.
That whole mystery illustrated him as a Ravenclaw villain so beautifully. While I love Oswald dearly, his villainous motivations are very much classic Slytherin ones--he’s ambitious, and his cunning and manipulation serve his ambition. And of course, there’s nothing wrong with a classic Slytherin villain, but I suppose as a Ravenclaw I love to see villains from my own house. Unlike Oswald, Ed doesn’t care about ruling Gotham. He wants people to know how smart he is and to be recognized for that, but also, he’s a genuinely curious person. He wants to know all the secrets the city keeps. The Court of Owls was a perfect trap for him, really--curiosity is one of his greatest downfalls (arrogance is another, of course, but that’s for another time).
Anyways, I just love how creepy and eerie this is, and I think it’s a fitting and illuminating picture of that moment when Ed finally got his answers. Or, well, just more questions, really.
I love how Ed was really just starting to think of himself as a big, scary supervillain, starting to have that power and feel it, and at that very moment, he stumbled into something much bigger and scarier than himself. This picture really gives off that feeling in a lovely way that makes one shiver a little.
This is another one of those pieces of art I’ve simply stared at for an inordinately long period of time.
Welcome to your new home.
A moodboard for my Killjoy OC Fruit Snack! She is half African American and half Hopi; I'm still working on developing the full details of her character, but putting together this moodboard has helped me work towards getting to know her better. Her name arose out of this post (blagueofchaos is my sideblog) and I’ve basically run with it from there, trying to work out what a Killjoy who named herself Fruit Snack would be like. I do plan on doing a full OC intro post once I have a decent summary of her worked out and written, so I’ll try to refrain from making this post super long with details and mostly let the moodboard speak for itself.
I was motivated to make this moodboard by the Killjoys of Color Project run by @andromeda-flash and @code-red-against-mike-milligram. This is for Day 3: City Born OCs. Thank you for the inspiration to actually make this!
For full photo sources and credits, plus an expanded section of thoughts on my moodboard process that I moved for brevity’s sake, see below the cut.
I was also thinking about putting something to more specifically represent her Hopi heritage in this moodboard, and I’ve been reading up on Kachina dolls, but I didn’t want to just stick one in my moodboard without understanding the full context of them and whether it would be appropriate. I think it’s fairly likely that BLI, as an organization that tries to strip people of any individuality, would attempt to prevent the passing on of such traditions, but I’m also sure that her mother would have passed some knowledge of her heritage on to her in secret before she left the city, so I was thinking maybe a Kachina doll could be like the one physical aspect of her culture she has to hold onto. I may at some point make a revised or an additional moodboard with one in it, but for now I decided I should wait to be sure that I understand what I’m doing with those.

Gerard is just... a fascinating human. This is somehow both surreal and strange and yet surprisingly relatable? I had never thought of the images a book created in my mind as happening behind my head rather than in it, but his explanation of that is intriguing. Also the thing about climbing into your own head? Deeply relatable.
Also I appreciate the Barbara cameo :) At least, when I see squirrels in something Gerard-related, I now assume that they are his tame squirrel friends.
(read top to right, then bottom to right)
Back in February, Gerard contributed to a comic/prose anthology, along with several other artists/authors, called The Secret Loves of Geeks. He wrote a short 4-page comic on the subject of love. It’s very Gerard. Anyway, here are pictures from my copy. I haven’t spotted any chatter about this in the tags yet, so enjoy! Also, the full book can be purchased here– and it’s well worth it, because all these stories talk about love in all kinds of forms, all sorts of genders and sexualities, etc. Really a great thing that he participated in!
So my boyfriend @ravenfal came down to visit last weekend and we had some fun with my swords :) I totally didn’t plan it or realize at the time but I love how we got that light side/dark side effect since I wear purple 90% of the time which was dark enough that it looks like black here*, and he was wearing white and just happened to stand on the side with the Christmas tree. I’m quite pleased with how movie poster-ish it turned out overall. We had fun :)
*Actually I realize now I was wearing black pants and a black T-shirt with a purple tree on it and a purple sweater, so I am also wearing quite a bit of black; technically it might even be mostly black. The purple sweater looks black, though, so the effect is accentuated.
I actually did call it, but only because I recognized him from his more recent role as dashing international art thief Pierre Despereaux in Psych, which is a pretty solid intermediate phase between Westley and Mayor Jerkface.
I was just as surprised as you to learn that Despereaux was Westley, as I recall, back when I was first googling him. Like I think I thought he looked familiar but I couldn’t place him. (Then I ended up writing more than half of the Psych Wiki page on Despereaux but that’s another story.)
But it was hilarious because my mom, who has also seen Psych and Princess Bride, totally thought I was wrong. I looked at the mayor and I was like “hey, that’s Despereaux” and she was like “Nah, I sort of see the resemblance but that isn’t him”. Then I looked it up and it was; it’s bloody Cary Elwes. I’m very proud of my facial recognition skills, which are frequently lacking but in this case were spot on.
Although, to be fair, I also kept getting the mayor and the newspaper guy mixed up, to the point where I briefly thought that the mayor also ran the newspaper, and when I learned they were separate I had no idea which one was Heather’s dad, so I guess that’s 1 win and 1 loss for my facial recognition skills after all.
(Also Pierre Despereaux is the #1 best side character in Psych and if you love Westley, I highly recommend you watch Despereaux’s episodes on Psych. The first one is called Extradition: British Columbia and it’s great and you should watch it...)
Oh thank you! Look at him being all rock star :) Very cool.
Oh I wonder if that’s the same show they took clips from in this fanvideo? I remember thinking how funny it is to see him wearing a cross (on account of his not actually being a vampire).

Mom: Why don’t you get out some cookbooks and look for a recipe? Let’s try making something different tonight.
Me: Okay. *Goes to bookshelf and pulls out my Harry Potter and Doctor Who cookbooks*
Boardtober Day 1: Autumn or Falling Leaves
When Dracula was giving his big speech about all the battle triumphs of his family over the years and he mentioned "that great shame of my nation, the shame of Cassova," I lowkey read it as "Casanova" at first and I thought that Dracula was just throwing shade at his weird horny cousin who slept around a lot. I was like "oh I didn't know they were related" until I looked at the word closer, lol.
*Wiggling the string toy for my cats*
*I swing it over to Maple's paws*
Maple: Mother you are breaking my immersion. No prey would so readily surrender itself to me. I am a hunter to be feared. Mother I cannot believe that this is a creature I am meant to hunt. It should fear me. It should tremble and flee before--
*I swing the toy away*
Maple: Mother. That is simply too far. I am not going over there.
