Modern fandom went awry when people stopped learning how to avoid content that upsets them and instead starting actively seeking it out.
I mean this in the kindest, most loving way possible, but babes you'll be so much happy when you stop focusing on what other people are doing and instead focus on what you like.
You'll never be able to stop people from liking what you hate, and the best way you'll find any peace of mind is properly utilizing blocking, blacklisting, and muting tools. Take it from someone who used to run a shipping discourse blog, fandom is supposed to be what you enjoy, stop focusing on things that upset you.

‼️ Do not surrender the power to decide what fictional ideas might cause you emotional or psychological harm to other people.
‼️ No one will ever know better than you what ideas are harmful to you personally.
‼️ You cannot decide what is psychologically or emotionally harmful to another person.
‼️ Attempting to restrict the kind of fiction that people create or consume because you think it might cause them emotional or psychological harm is authoritarian.
‼️ It is safe to explore any ideas and themes in fiction. Fiction does not and cannot cause physical harm to any person. You are always in control of the fiction you are creating or consuming.

You can't say, "Well it's okay to judge the morality of an author based on their fiction if you're correctly interpreting that fiction."
Because, my friend, every person who interprets a piece of fiction believes that their interpretation is the correct one.
The tumblr user who recently posted believing that Hayao Miyazaki had nationalist beliefs and made movies that supported fascism believed that their interpretation was correct, and judged Miyazaki's morals based on that assumption.
The people who think Nabokov wrote Lolita as an endorsement of child abuse rather than a work of fiction against child abuse believe that their interpretation is correct, and judge the author based on that assumption.
The moment you allow yourself to judge an author's morals based on your assessment and interpretation of their fiction–
➡️ you are opening yourself up to falsely judging victims who were writing about the abuse and injustice they suffered or witnessed, because you falsely believed you were supposed to root for the abuser.
➡️ you are opening yourself up to falsely judging people who were writing about the horribleness of crime and abuse, and injustice who fumbled the message or didn't portray it in a way that is clear enough for you.
Unless and until an author comes out and tells you why they wrote a certain thing a certain way, you cannot know for certain why they wrote it. You cannot judge their moral intent.
If someone writes a horrible dystopia and then in an author's note says "I wrote this because I think this is the world we should live in and aspire to you" please, please judge them.
If someone writes a book about child abuse and gives an interview where they say "I believe that this is the way we should treat children, this is good and just" please, please judge them.
But you can't know. You can't believe that you know.
You have to judge people on their actions in the real world and their words that they say they believe, not the fiction that they create.

i want to get an idea of just how many proshippers there are, and what percentage is freely open about being proship, is just secretive, or is hiding that they're proship

You can use all the non-accusatory or "compassionate" language you want, but folks can tell when your "Seek help" comes from your negative or lesser perceptions of them. They can tell when you say "Get Therapy" that you, on the other side of the screen, wish they would keep their weird or uncomfortable identities private, wish they thought lesser of themselves so you would not have to be made uncomfortable by someone else's pride or acceptance of themselves.
They can tell.
The "if you don't want to get harassed, don't post your weird shit online" take has to be among the ones I hate the most. You're telling me I have to post "normal" stuff (whatever that means) or else the harassment is justified? That the one in the right is the person sending threats? That I can't even have a space for myself online? For fuck's sake.
