Female Aerospace Pioneers - Elizabeth “Bessie” Coleman In 1921 Elizabeth “Bessie” Coleman, A

Female Aerospace Pioneers - Elizabeth “Bessie” Coleman In 1921 Elizabeth “Bessie” Coleman, a Texan, became the first civilian (non-military) licensed African-American pilot in the world. She went to France to learn to fly after her brothers, who served in World War II, told her French women were allowed to fly. When she returned to the United States she did air shows: barnstorming, parachute jumping, and giving demonstrations. Coleman would only perform if the audience was not segregated and all people got to enter the show through the same gate.  This courageous and adventurous woman fell from the open cockpit of a plane during a test flight which ended her life on April 30, 1926.  She was enshrined in the National Aviation Hall of Fame in 2006. Reposted from @nasa - A trail of night lights ✨ ✨ ✨ This image compiles over 400 time-lapse photos taken by @astro_christina from the International Space Station (@ISS), as the station traveled from Namibia toward the Red Sea on July 5, 2019.⁣ ⁣ Here, stationary features like cities appear as pale yellow-white dotted streaks; many of the thinner dotted lines with darker orange hues are seasonal fires burning. Northward, you can see bright white lightning flashes from thunderstorms and above the horizon, a faint green-yellow tracing of the upper atmosphere known as airglow.⁣ ⁣ Image Credit: NASA⁣ Caption: Andrea Meado, Jacobs Technology⁣ ⁣ #startrails #stars #space #airglow #timelapse #nasa⁣ https://www.instagram.com/p/B4BCP1DB-9c/?igshid=104gfz87tm1pw

Academics In A Box

Academics in a Box Inc. was founded to inspire in students a desire to learn more about the sciences and humanities. Our products aim to allow students a new way to experience the beauty, poetry, and wonder of our universe through hands-on experience. Our foundation is based on the ideas that by “doing” and “experiencing,” students are more motivated to become inquisitive about the world around them. It’s this curiosity and creative thinking that are at the heart of developing a love of learning. The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) is used as a guide to ensure that our products supplement the learning that takes place in the classroom. We aim to take students beyond simple memorization of facts and figures by helping them gain a better understanding of significant science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) practice and application, as well as gain a deeper appreciation of the materials they are presented with.
