Are you about to be ready for tomorrow nights academy awards?!
A little saddened by the news that for the first time in about 80 years the nominated songs in the category „best movie song“ are not gonna be performed live on stage. Kinda makes me appreciate eg. Ryan Goslings (played Ken in 2023 film adaption of Barbie) performance more...
"This year, the presentation in the 'Best Original Song' category will no longer be characterized by live performances, but by the songwriters. We will celebrate the artfulness of the teams that bring these songs to life through personal reflections," CEO Bill Kramer and Janet Yang, President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, said in a statement.
I get the lack of understanding regarding this decision and agree with one users opinion that in the previous years the songs often were the highlight of the evening.
However, spectators do not have to completely do without performances.
As the Academy's superiors emphasize in their statement, there will be "powerful musical moments [...] that combine the rich history of the film with its courageous and inspiring future".
These moments reportedly include an opening performance by Wicked stars Cynthia Erivo (38) and Ariana Grande (31), who are nominated for their performances in the musical film in the categories "Best Actress" and "Best Supporting Actress".
